With the Rams resting the majority of their regulars on offense, and San Francisco rolling along a four-game winning streak, this was a tough spot for the 25-year-old Quarterback. Additionally, considering it was also Mannion's first career start, the audition should probably be viewed as a mediocre showing. Still, with Jared Goff taking a significant step forward and showing tremendous promise this year, Mannion's fantasy outlook remains bleak heading into the 2018 season.

Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed Wednesday that he'll rest Jared Goff, but it'll be tough for Mannion to find success while RB Todd Gurley, LT Andrew Whitworth and C John Sullivan are also held out of the lineup. Further adding to the challenge, McVay probably won't allow Robert Woods, Sammy Watkins and Cooper Kupp (knee) to handle full workloads, assuming they play at all. While it's still a nice audition for the future, Mannion can't be counted on for much this week.

The strong likelihood that Goff will be made inactive or see only limited action against San Francisco positions Mannion to receive his most extensive NFL action to date. Still, there aren't many fantasy settings where Mannion is worth a roster spot.

In what would've been considered a shocking twist just a few months ago, Mannion, a third-round pick in 2015, has been placed above the first-overall pick in 2016, Jared Goff, on the depth Chart. Mannion impressed in the preseason, finishing with 325 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception on 39-of-60 passing. That performance, combined with his extra year in the team's offense, is likely why he ended up as the primary backup.

Mannion completed 18 of 25 passes for 147 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 28-24 preseason victory over the Cowboys. He also gained a yard on two rushes.

EDGE Analysis

The 2015 third-round pick received some extended playing time after 2016 No.1 overall pick Jared Goff took an early powder due to a sore shoulder. Mannion made the most of his opportunity, leading the Rams to a rousing comeback from what had been a 21-0 deficit at one point in the first half. He connected with running back Chase Reynolds for the first of his three scores in the third quarter, before coming back with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to Nelson Spruce and Aaron Green. Although he appears destined for a No. 3 role to start the season given the fact that Case Keenum is likely to start while Goff waits in the wings, Mannion can certainly give the Rams' coaching staff something to think about with continued preseason showings the caliber of Saturday's effort.

Mannion was 6-of-7 for 31 yards in relief of Nick Foles on Sunday as the Rams fell 31-7 to Cincinnati.

EDGE Analysis

This was Mannion's first look of the season, and he performed decently in his sparse game time. Nick Foles has been awful the last two weeks, and if Case Keenum is still hurt, the Rams may give Mannion a shot at the starting spot. That being said, the Rams' offense is putrid and no matter who's under center, they're not going to produce much fantasy-wise.

Mannion was 6-of-13 for 47 yards and an interception in Saturday's 24-14 preseason loss to Indianapolis.

EDGE Analysis

It was a shaky outing for Mannion, as he also took a sack and posted an abysmal 23.6 quarterback rating. The fourth preseason game is likely to decide whether the Rams keep Mannion or Austin Davis around as the third quarterback option.
