Mannion could earn the start Saturday against the 49ers in the event Jared Goff (concussion) is unable to play, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
When Goff wasn't deemed ready to serve as the backup QB at the beginning of the season, Mannion was active behind Case Keenum for Weeks 1 and 2. In the interim, Mannion has donned street clothes while Goff worked his way into the lead role, which the latter has handled in each of the last five games. Now with a concussion in tow, Goff's immediate availability is precarious, to say the least. Thus, the Rams will take two things into consideration: due to Keenum's free-agent status in the offseason, the organization wants to see what they have in Mannion, a third-round pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, meaning he may be under center Saturday.
