Mannion has been named the Rams' backup quarterback to begin the season, Lindsey Thiry of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
In what would've been considered a shocking twist just a few months ago, Mannion, a third-round pick in 2015, has been placed above the first-overall pick in 2016, Jared Goff, on the depth Chart. Mannion impressed in the preseason, finishing with 325 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception on 39-of-60 passing. That performance, combined with his extra year in the team's offense, is likely why he ended up as the primary backup.
