Mathews, who landed on the Eagles' Active/Non-football Injury list after hurting his ankle while training last week, was seen walking into the team's facility Wednesday without a noticeable limp, CSN Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though the Eagles have not presented a timetable for Mathews' return, this nugget hints at an injury that isn't too severe. Either way, until Mathews returns to the field, the likes of Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood and Kenjon Barner figure to see added running back reps during the Eagles' training camp practices.

The Eagles have placed Mathews (ankle) on their Active/Non-Football Injury List.
EDGE Analysis
The report notes that the running back suffered an ankle injury while training last week, without providing a timetable for Mathews' return to action. On a more positive note, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer noted Wednesday that Mathews "was seen walking into (the Eagles') facility and his injury isn't considered serious." We'll let you know if that assessment changes.

Mathews and teammate Darren Sproles are being pegged as the Eagles' primary running backs following the trade of DeMarco Murray, Philly.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mathews' future with the Eagles was somewhat uncertain earlier this week, but after Murray was traded, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman expressed confidence in Mathews and Sproles as the team's top two runners. In 13 games last season, Mathews rushed for 539 yards and six touchdowns, averaging a career-best 5.1 yards per carry along the way. While the Eagles could certainly add another running back in the upcoming draft, it appears Mathews could be their primary ball-carrier this season, according to Roseman and coach Doug Peterson's recent comments.

Mathews recently had groin surgery, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mathews originally hurt his groin in late October, but a bye week allowed him to avoid any absences. He later missed three games because of a concussion, and he was also listed on the injury report with the groin issue until Week 14. Despite his absence from the report, this may help to explain why Mathews only had 11 touches over the final two weeks, with DeMarco Murray notably re-emerging in a key role for the regular-season finale. Mathews should be healthy before the start of training camp, but he'll likely have to compete with Murray for carries again.

Mathews carried the ball four times for 11 yards and caught one pass for seven yards in Sunday's 35-30 loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Mathews' midseason renaissance came to an abrupt halt in the final two weeks of the season, when fellow running back DeMarco Murray was re-installed as the team's No. 1 rushing option. Mathews' status heading into next season is shaky, and will depend largely on how the Eagles' next head coach views his weapons at the running back position.

Mathews rushed four times for five yards and a touchdown during Saturday's loss to Washington. He also caught two of three targets for 13 receiving yards.
EDGE Analysis
The Eagles split up their backfield touches fairly evenly, as DeMarco Murray rushed five times for 27 yards and a touchdown and Darren Sproles rushed five times for nine yards, though the latter also added seven catches for 56 receiving yards. With all three backs healthy, it's tough to see one of them breaking out in any meaningful way, which obviously limits their fantasy upsides.

Mathews had 11 carries for 58 yards and one catch (on two targets) for three yards in Sunday's 40-17 loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Mathews did have a couple of nice carries along the way, but his night was ultimately defined by a soft fumble and failed fourth-down conversion. He mostly split work with Darren Sproles, as DeMarco Murray got just two carries (for three yards) and wasn't targeted. Sproles also had a rough night, gaining just nine yards on six carries and 16 yards on three receptions (four targets). There's some chance Murray could be more involved in Week 16 against the Redskins, but it's increasingly evident that the Eagles are better off leaning on the Mathews-Sproles combination. Even if he won't admit it, head coach Chip Kelly seems to have arrived at the same conclusion, making Mathews the clear favorite to lead the Eagles in Week 16 carries.

Mathews (concussion/groin) parlayed a team-high 13 carries into 38 yards, and caught both of his targets for four yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Bills.
EDGE Analysis
Mathews wasn't especially effective, but it was nice to see him lead the team in carries in his return to the lineup. All three of Mathews (42), Darren Sproles (45) and DeMarco Murray (37) finished with similar yardage totals, but Sproles was by far the most effective on a per-touch basis. The parity among Philadelphia's three running backs limits each particular individual's upside.

Mathews (concussion/groin) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
EDGE Analysis
Mathews' availability was never in much doubt after he practiced fully Thursday and Friday and was given a probable designation heading into the weekend, but it remains unclear what kind of role he might fill Sunday. The Eagles and coach Chip Kelly appear inclined to explore other options at running back rather than free-agent flop DeMarco Murray, who saw only eight of the Eagles' 38 running-back carries last week against the Patriots and could rank fourth on the depth chart for Sunday's game, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. In accordance with Murray's role being de-emphasized, the Eagles figure to deploy a running back platoon that could be headed by either Darren Sproles or Mathews, leaving only limited snaps for Murray and Kenjon Barner. Because of his expected uptick in carries along with his prowess as a receiver, Sproles looks like the most appealing weekly option of any of the Eagles' backs, but those in deeper leagues may still be able to wring some value out of Mathews.

Mathews (concussion/groin) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Bills, CSN Philadelphia's Geoff Mosher reports.
EDGE Analysis
After logging full practices Thursday and Friday, Mathews is ready to return from a three-game absence. DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles and Kenjon Barner are also in the mix for carries, but with Murray's role shrinking last week, there is some chance that Mathews will lead the way. It's also possible Murray will return to his normal workload, in which case Mathews might be limited to his usual 5-12 carries.
