Griffin was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice due to a toe injury.
EDGE Analysis
Griffin is fresh off his best game of the season so it's a bit disappointing to see him listed on the injury report. The Texans haven't elaborated on the severity of the toe injury, so we'll have to wait and see how this plays out. Should Griffin practice in full later this week, it's expected he'd be ready to go for Sunday's game.

Griffin caught six of nine targets for 65 yards in Sunday's 19-16 overtime win over the Cowboys.
EDGE Analysis
Griffin had been quiet through the first four weeks, catching four of 11 targets for 75 yards, before nearly matching that production in Week 5. His season-high in targets came at that expense of Will Fuller, who was targeted just three times after being limited by a hamstring injury during the practice week. Production out of Houston's tight end position group has been spotty -- Griffin, Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas have yet to score a touchdown -- so Griffin's increased usage Sunday is more exception than rule. We don't see a fundamental shift in focus from the wideout corps, which dominates quarterback Deshaun Watson's attention.

Griffin caught his lone target for 12 yards in Houston's Week 4 overtime win over Indianapolis on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Griffin, who led Houston's tight ends in targets last week, had just one target Sunday for the second time this season. The position group was targeted just four times in 42 pass attempts.

Griffin caught two of four targets for 44 yards in Week 3's loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Griffin's 32-yard catch was one of Houston's seven plays that gained 20-plus yards and his longest of the season. However, once again, targets were spread out among Houston's tight ends, making is hard for Griffin to stand out as a weekly fantasy play. Jordan Thomas (two targets) and Jordan Akins (one) also received attention from quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Griffin (hip) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
Griffin was limited in practice to begin the week, but seems to have fully recovered from his hip injury. Despite being listed as the Texans' starting tight end, Griffin has shared a substantial amount of targets with fellow tight ends Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas. Targets could once again be diluted between Houston's three tight ends in Sunday's match against the Giants.

Griffin (hip) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
Griffin seems to have suffered a hip injury in Sunday's game against the Titans. The severity of the starting tight end's injury remains undisclosed, but Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas would benefit from increased targets if Griffin were to miss any time.

Griffin caught is lone target for 19 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Titans in Week 2.
EDGE Analysis
After Griffin was shut on five targets in Week 1, he made his first catch of the season Sunday. Griffin is the starting tight end, but finds himself sharing playing time with Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas, which serves to dilute the targets of all three.

Griffin did not catch any of his five targets in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Patriots in Week 1.
EDGE Analysis
Griffin opened the game as the starting tight end, but he and quarterback Deshaun Watson failed to get in sync, including on four targets inside the 20. It could have been Griffin cutting off his routes or Watson misfiring, as New England's defense pressured the quarterback most of the day. While Griffin was shut out for the day, backup tight ends Jordan Akins (two catches, two targets, 11 yards) and Jordan Thomas (one catch, two targets, 27 yards) were able to handle the ball Sunday.

Griffin is the top tight end on the depth chart as the Texans enter training camp, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Bill O'Brien lauded the talent at the position while noting the two tight ends drafted -- Jordan Akins (3rd round) and Jordan Thomas (6th) -- will need to learn how to play the position at the pro level. "That position, next to quarterback, is probably the hardest position to learn in our offense as far as being involved in the running game, the passing game, both from a protection standpoint, a route-running standpoint. But we feel good about the young guys we have there. We've got, obviously, Ryan Griffin, a veteran player back for us," said O'Brien. That suggests Griffin should be the starter once the regular season kicks off, but his strength is that of a receiver more than a blocker.

Houston drafted a pair of tight ends to join Griffin, using a third-round selection on Jordan Akins and a sixth-round pick on Jordan Thomas, Deepi Sidhu of the team's official website reports.
EDGE Analysis
Akins and Thomas combined for only 52 catches last season, and neither seems likely to be an immediate contributor. However, the duo did well to land with a Texans team that has an obvious need at tight end after C.J. Fiedorowicz retired due to a string of concussions. Griffin has a troublesome concussion history in his own right, with the most recent incident landing him on injured reserve in early November. He'll likely enter training camp as the favorite to serve as Houston's top pass-catcher at tight end, but Akins and Stephen Anderson could also push for the job. It's difficult to envision a scenario in which any of the Houston tight ends is worth owning in standard leagues.
