Ryan Broyles is expected to be active for Sunday's game against the Redskins. Patrick Edwards (ankle) is out, meaning Broyles is getting a chance for the first time this season. It's unclear exactly how healthy his knees are, but he'll be in a great spot as the No. 3 wideout playing against one of the league's worst secondaries. With a good performance, it's certainly possible Broyles leapfrogs Edwards on the depth chart.

OC Scott Linehan believes Ryan Broyles (knee) is "ready to go," but the Lions won't decide his Week 3 status until Saturday.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz was noncommittal Monday when asked when Ryan Broyles will resume playing on game days. Broyles doesn't play on special teams, and the Lions simply don't consider him one of their most 46 valuable players at the moment. "He's getting closer," Schwartz insisted. "He's working his way back into game shape. He's working his way back into endurance shape. And also just the confidence and everything else. He's making progress. It's too really hard to say right now." Lions.com hints there's a good chance Broyles will debut in Week 3.

Ryan Broyles is inactive for Week 2 against the Cardinals. He's still trying to work his way into the game-day lineup. The Lions insist Broyles' knee is healthy, but they don't believe he's one of their top four receivers at this point. Broyles is no more than a WR5 bench stash in fantasy. We're still optimistic he'll be a contributor before midseason.

Coach Jim Schwartz says Ryan Broyles' return isn't directly related to his recovery from a torn right ACL. "It's probably a little bit competitive," Schwartz said. "He's really not an injury situation. He's in a situation where he's just working his way back and working his way into the swing of things." Broyles hasn't been listed on the injury report in either of the first two weeks, practicing in full every day. He's simply behind Nate Burleson and Patrick Edwards on the depth chart at the moment.

Speaking Monday, Lions coach Jim Schwartz claimed Ryan Broyles (knee) was "ahead of schedule" despite not playing in Sunday's opener. It strains belief since Broyles played in the preseason, but couldn't give it a go against the Vikings. According to the Lions, however, it's all part of the plan. Week to week, we wouldn't count on seeing Broyles in Week 2.

Ryan Broyles (knee) is inactive for Sunday's opener against the Vikings. Broyles has been a strict rehab program and was limited to 30 snaps in two preseason games. The Lions plan to ease him back into the lineup and have yet to indicate whether he'll be active in Week 2. Nate Burleson and Patrick Edwards will serve as the top two receivers behind Calvin Johnson.

Ryan Broyles is expected to be inactive for Sunday's game against the Vikings. After a hot start to camp, Broyles' knee woes started to crop up. He's torn his ACL in each knee in each of the last two seasons. The talented possession receiver is going to need some time to get right and become a contributor. In the meantime, the Lions will roll with intriguing undrafted rookie Patrick Edwards as their No. 3 receiver behind Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson. Broyles is only a hold in deeper PPR formats.

The Detroit Free Press says Ryan Broyles' role could grow as the season moves along. Coming off another ACL tear, Broyles is expected to start off with limited reps. But if he can get his legs under him, he'll have far more upside than Nate Burleson or Patrick Edwards. There's stash appeal here in deeper formats thanks to the Lions' pass-heavy attack.

Ryan Broyles caught two passes for 32 yards in the Lions' third preseason game Thursday night versus New England. Even with Calvin Johnson sidelined by a knee bruise, Broyles worked exclusively with the "twos." At least for the moment, he appears to be behind Nate Burleson and possibly Patrick Edwards, who were Detroit's starting wideouts for Thursday's regular season dress rehearsal. Broyles did look sharp playing with the Kellen Moore group, but he's got some depth chart climbing to do. We still like Broyles as a WR4 fantasy pick with some upside.
