Lions WR Ryan Broyles is stronger coming off injury than he was last year. Broyles, who suffered a torn right ACL last December, is participating in individual drills at OTAs. The receiver believes he rushed his recovery last season, but says "This time I have a little bit more rest, heal up my patella. I feel a lot stronger at this point this year than I did last year." The coaching staff has identified him as a breakout candidate.

Lions WR Ryan Broyles is steadily recovering from his torn right ACL. Coach Jim Schwartz said there's "no target to return," and added Broyles is "almost in the same position he was last year" but with more experience. The shifty slot-man came on strong before last season's knee injury, and is being counted on to play an important role in the Lions' high-powered offense this season. The team's priority is getting him healthy.

MLive.com considers Ryan Broyles a breakout candidate this season. Broyles is recovering from a torn right ACL, and the Lions didn't address the receiver position this offseason. They must feel comfortable with his progress. In a six-game stretch last season, Broyles caught 21 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns. Broyles is questionable for Week 1, but once he's back he'll have a ton of value in the Lions' high-powered attack while working opposite Megatron.

Ryan Broyles (torn right ACL) began running in a pool on Monday as he ramps up his rehab. Broyles tore his ACL on December 2 and underwent surgery the following Thursday. That puts him at just under two months removed from knee reconstruction. Incredible, really. "Working my way back just to play football. I just want to be out there as much as possible," Broyles said. "I'm looking forward to the challenge. I'm always up for it. Definitely shooting for Week 1." While Titus Young tries to force his way out of town, it's nice to see Broyles putting in the hard work to get back.

Lions GM Martin Mayhew says Ryan Broyles (torn right ACL) "may not do much during camp and he may come on around midseason" in 2013. Broyles tore his ACL in Week 13 and will certainly be up against the clock to even make it back for Week 1 next season, but he's said he is "definitely shooting" for the opener. After tearing his left ACL in 2011, Broyles came into the NFL and didn't experience an offseason. He'll be in the same position this upcoming year. Broyles didn't make an impact until Week 7 this year, and we'd feel pretty comfortable predicting a similar return date in 2013.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz told reporters following Sunday's loss that the club's medical staff is "concerned" with Ryan Broyles' right knee. We'll reiterate that Broyles' ACL tear last November occurred in his left knee. So it's not the same one. Broyles figures to go for a Monday MRI, at which point the full extent of his injury will be known, to the Lions' staff at least. This organization is rarely forthcoming about injury situations in the media. We still doubt the Lions would go back to problem-child Titus Young if Broyles were lost for the season. Mike Thomas is the next guy up.
