James (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
James had missed the past week of practice due to a concussion. He's likely stuck on IR through the end of the season, barring an injury settlement.

James sat out of practice Tuesday with a problem that has hindered him for almost a week, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Every training camp and preseason snap will is crucial for James to make the team, as he's up against Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, and possible goal-line back Zach Zenner. This injury will likely continue to slim down his chances of making the team.

James signed a reserve/future contract with the Lions on Monday, The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
James spent the previous three seasons on and off the Bucs' active roster, finishing his time in Tampa Bay with 83 rushes for 351 yards. He now joins a stable of competent runners in Detroit and will likely have trouble making the team.

The Buccaneers waived James on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Added as depth during a season in which Tampa Bay lost Doug Martin, Charles Sims (knee), and Jacquizz Rodgers for varying stretches, James topped out at 23 snaps among his three appearances with the team. Overall, James managed four rushes for 19 yards and four catches (on four targets) for 22 yards. If he clears waivers, the Bucs will likely stash the running back on their practice squad.

James carried twice for seven yards and secured his only target for five yards in Sunday's 36-10 victory over the Bears.
EDGE Analysis
The fourth-year back was relegated to a third-string role with Doug Martin's return from a hamstring injury and Peyton Barber's extended involvement. James is still in the process of fully reacclimating to the offense he spent this past summer learning, but could have a steady, albeit considerably limited role until Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) is ready for a return.

James has picked the Bucs offense back up quickly and will be relied on going forward according to offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
James was in on 37 snaps (20 offense, 17 special teams) in the Week 9 loss to the Falcons, despite having just returned to the team that previous Monday. The fourth-year back had spent the entirety of preseason with the Bucs, so he already had a solid foundation of the offense to work with. With Doug Martin (hamstring) having returned to practice Wednesday but Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) still uncertain to play in Week 10, James could have a modest complementary role alongside Peyton Barber at minimum, and a considerably more extensive opportunity if both Martin and Rodgers are unable to go.

James, who returned to the Bucs early last week, is healthy and ready to help the team's decimated backfield, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
James, who'd amassed 370 yards of total offense for the Bucs from 2013-14, was ready to open the regular season as the team's third back behind Doug Martin and Charles Sims before suffering a lower body injury that James still just vaguely describes as a "tweak" to his leg. He was consequently waived/injured and eventually latched on to the Lions' practice squad after recovering. However, once the mandatory waiting period for a player to re-sign with a team following an injury settlement had passed, the desperate Bucs came calling on Nov. 1. His conditioning was sufficient to allow him to play 20 snaps on offense and 17 on special teams in Thursday's 43-28 loss to the Falcons, and his role could certainly expand in Week 10 if neither Doug Martin (hamstring) or Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) can return to action. If so, the fourth-year veteran feels ready for the call. "You can't really simulate practice and games -- it's really hard to," James said. "But I think I was in good enough shape to play the other night. I think I played fairly well when it came down to my conditioning, so I was okay with that."

James carried once for three yards and secured all three targets for 17 yards in Thursday's 43-28 loss to the Falcons.
EDGE Analysis
Just signed off the Lions practice squad earlier in the week, James was quickly thrust into his 2016 debut thanks to the Bucs backfield's dire health situation, as well as his own experience in the offense stemming from the 2016 preseason. James saw Antone Smith and Peyton Barber garner the overwhelming majority of rushing reps Thursday as expected, but did make a solid impact in the passing game in his limited opportunities. The former Hurricane's prospects for Week 10 are currently all over the map, as a return to game action by both Doug Martin (hamstring) and Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) could result in James' release, while the continued absence of the two would likely see him splitting carries with presumed starter Peyton Barber against the Bears. The return of only one of the aforementioned injured duo would also likely result in James hanging on to a roster spot for at least another week, albeit as a third running back. The entire situation should become progressively less muddled as the practice week unfolds.

James, who just returned to the Bucs on Monday after spending nearly a month on the Lions' practice squad, could receive a solid dose of work Thursday given the state of Tampa's backfield and his familiarity with the offense, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
James is no stranger to the team or head coach Dirk Koetter's offense, having originally made the Bucs' 53-man roster out of training camp before being waived injured. He's also done his share of filling in for Doug Martin in the past, albeit under a different coaching regime, having rattled off a 158-yard game against the Seahawks in Seattle back in 2013 in his stead, and totaling 295 yards on 60 carries overall that season. James practiced on special teams earlier this week, but how much work he gets from scrimmage against the Falcons remains up in the air.

James has agreed to contract terms with the Buccaneers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
James will join the Buccaneers from the Lions practice squad. With Doug Martin (hamstring), Charles Sims (knee) and Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) all injured, James' signing comes with Tampa Bay's backfield scrambling for options ahead of Thursday's game against Atlanta. All 19 of James' career games played have come for the Bucs, for whom he posted 332 rushing yards on 79 carries across the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
