James carried once for three yards and secured all three targets for 17 yards in Thursday's 43-28 loss to the Falcons.
EDGE Analysis
Just signed off the Lions practice squad earlier in the week, James was quickly thrust into his 2016 debut thanks to the Bucs backfield's dire health situation, as well as his own experience in the offense stemming from the 2016 preseason. James saw Antone Smith and Peyton Barber garner the overwhelming majority of rushing reps Thursday as expected, but did make a solid impact in the passing game in his limited opportunities. The former Hurricane's prospects for Week 10 are currently all over the map, as a return to game action by both Doug Martin (hamstring) and Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) could result in James' release, while the continued absence of the two would likely see him splitting carries with presumed starter Peyton Barber against the Bears. The return of only one of the aforementioned injured duo would also likely result in James hanging on to a roster spot for at least another week, albeit as a third running back. The entire situation should become progressively less muddled as the practice week unfolds.
