Gallup, who turned 28 earlier this month, is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he recorded a 34/418/2 receiving line (on 57 targets) in 17 games with the Cowboys. If the 2018 third-rounder ends up signing with Baltimore, he'd add needed depth to a wideout corps currently headed by Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor.

In what has been rumored to be Gallup's fate this offseason, Dallas has decided to move on from the 2018 third-round pick. Using a mechanism available to them, the Cowboys have designated the move as a post-June 1 cut, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com, which will save them $9.5 million in 2024 but add $8.7 million in dead cap next year. Gallup has one big season on his resume -- 1,107 receiving yards back in 2019 -- but he's failed to surpass 500 such yards in each of the past three seasons while playing 40 of 51 possible regular-season games.

Gallup may be released this offseason, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.

The last time we saw Gallup in uniform he caught six passes for 103 yards in a wild-card loss to the Packers. It was his first 100-yard game since Nov. 2021, six weeks before he suffered a career-altering ACL tear. Gallup has three seasons remaining on the five-year, $57.5 million extension he signed a few months after suffering the injury, but none of the remaining money is guaranteed. The Cowboys can free up $9.5 million in 2024 cap space if Gallup is designated as a post-June 1 release, while cutting him without the designation would free up just $800,000 but keep him off the books for 2025. He'll probably need to accept a pay cut/renegotiation if he wants to stay in Dallas

The 27-year-old wideout never topped 92 receiving yards during the regular season, but Gallup wound up being one of Dak Prescott's top targets in the second half after the Cowboys fell into a big hole early and had to air it out in a comeback attempt. On the campaign, Gallup didn't miss a game for the first time since 2020, but his 418 receiving yards in the regular season were a career low. He has three years and $32.5 million remaining on his current contract, but his declining role suggests he's a candidate to be cut or have his deal restructured in the offseason.

Gallup played 33 of the Cowboys' 66 snaps on offense in Sunday's 22-20 loss to the Dolphins, recording two catches for four yards on two targets.

EDGE Analysis

After playing at least 54 percent of the Cowboys' snaps in each of the team's first six games, Gallup has seen a noticeable role reduction since Dallas' Week 7 bye. In the ensuing nine contests, Gallup's snap shares have hovered between 35 and 51 percent, and he hasn't drawn more than five targets in any of those games. Gallup remains a starting receiver for Dallas, but CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks are clearly ahead of him in the pecking order, and second-year player Jalen Tolbert may be encroaching on Gallup's standing as the third option on the depth chart.

Gallup caught his only target for nine yards in Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Bills.

Dak Prescott posted his lowest passing yards total of the season and completed just 21 passes, his lowest total since the Cowboys' Week 7 bye, giving few opportunities for the team's depth receiving options to make any kind of impact. Gallup has caught one pass or less in three of the last four games, seeing only one target in each of those contests, but he could see higher volume in Week 16 if the road game against the Dolphins turns into a barn burner.

The veteran wideout caught a one-yard slant from Dak Prescott right before halftime to give the Cowboys a 24-6 lead in an eventual 33-13 romp. The TD was Gallup's second of the season, while the three grabs and five targets tied his highs in seven games since the team's bye. CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks and Jake Ferguson remain Prescott's top options in the passing game, but there's been enough production to go around lately that Gallup is still capable of providing some fantasy value, although not consistently.

Gallup caught his only target for 13 yards in a 45-10 win over the Commanders on Thanksgiving.

Dak Prescott spread the ball around in the rout and completed passes to 10 different Cowboys, but Gallup was one of the six who has only one reception. The veteran wideout was also on the field for a season-low 18 snaps on offense as younger options like Jalen Tolbert (20 snaps) and Jalen Brooks (six snaps) see their roles grow. Gallup hasn't caught more than three passes in a game since Week 4 and has topped 31 receiving yards only once in that stretch. While every Dallas receiver has some big-play potential given how hot Prescott is right now, it would likely take an injury or two for Gallup's volume to increase significantly.

The Cowboys spread the ball around more than usual in a 33-10 rout, as nine different Dallas players caught multiple passes from Dak Prescott, and Gallup's production didn't stand out from the pack. The veteran wideout hasn't made a big impact this season but has established a steady floor with multiple receptions in eight straight games, posting a modest 25-331-1 line on 41 targets over that stretch.

Gallup caught both his targets for 70 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 49-17 rout of the Giants.

The veteran wideout was on the other end of a 41-yard TD toss from Dak Prescott in the third quarter, which was the third of four touchdown passes on the day for the QB. The score was Gallup's first of the season, while the yardage total was his second highest of 2023, and he hasn't caught more than three passes in a game since Week 4.
