Jets coach Aaron Glenn said Monday that he does not yet have an update on Fields' progress through the concussion protocol, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
New York will face off against the Dolphins on Monday Night Football in Week 4, which as Brian Costello of the New York Post notes could delay a tangible update on Fields' health until Thursday, when the team's first official injury report of the week is released. In order to suit up versus Miami, Fields will need to fully clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, which he entered during the Jets' loss to the Bills in Week 3. If Fields can't gain clearance in time to play against the Dolphins, Tyrod Taylor will draw another start.

Coach Aaron Glenn noted Wednesday that Fields (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Buccaneers.
EDGE Analysis
As a result, Tyrod Taylor is slated to draw the start at QB for the Jets this weekend. Fields will thus look to progress through the NFL's concussion protocol ahead of the team's Sept. 29 contest against the Dolphins. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, Fields was injured early in the fourth quarter of this past Sunday's loss Bills, marking the signal-caller's first documented concussion in the NFL, though the 2021 first-rounder did sustain one during his time at Ohio State.

Fields sustained a concussion during Sunday's game against the Bills, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com and Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports report.
EDGE Analysis
Before his departure from the Jets' 30-10 loss, Fields completed three of 11 pass attempts for 27 yards and added five carries for 49 yards. With the QB's concussion confirmed by the Jets, per Cimini, Fields now will have to progress through the NFL's protocol for head injuries in order to play next weekend against the Buccaneers. If Fields isn't cleared for Week 3 action, Tyrod Taylor would be in line to start in his place.

Fields was forced out of Sunday's game against the Bills to be evaluated for a possible concussion.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to heading to the locker room to get checked out, Fields completed three of his 11 pass attempts for 27 yards and carried five times for 49 yards. In Fields' absence, Tyrod Taylor has taken over at quarterback for the Jets.

Fields completed 16 of 22 passes for 218 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 34-32 loss to the Steelers. He also rushed 12 times for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
EDGE Analysis
Fields connected with Garrett Wilson for a 33-yard touchdown in the first quarter, then gave the Jets a nine-point lead with a two-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, one play after a 21-yard completion to Wilson got them in scoring range. Fields ran in another touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line to restore New York's lead at 32-31 with 7:01 to play, but the Steelers responded with a field goal and Fields couldn't get the Jets back into scoring range on the final drive. The Jets' new quarterback will look to build on this strong debut in Week 2 against the Bills.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Tuesday that "a good amount" of starters, Fields presumably included, will sit out Friday's preseason finale against the Eagles, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fields started both New York's prior preseason games, handling a total of three offensive possessions, but he and the rest of the Jets' key starters will sit out the team's exhibition finale. Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Fields has rarely thrown the ball downfield throughout training camp, with New York's offense instead focusing on the run game and short-area passes. That observation is reinforced by the fact that he's averaging just 3.9 air yards per attempt across his limited exhibition action, and that all four of Fields' targets to No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson this preseason have gone incomplete. Glenn admitted after Saturday's preseason loss to the Giants that "our passing game has to be better," saying that "our guys know we're going to put our heads down and go back to work." Fields' rushing abilities have been sufficient to provide fantasy upside in the past, but for him to enter the mix as a consistent QB1 this season, the Jets' passing game will have to establish a better rhythm before Week 1 against Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Fields completed one of five passes for four yards and had a five-yard carry during Saturday's 31-12 preseason loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Fields was afforded two possessions in the Jets' second exhibition, which resulted in a punt and a successful Nick Folk field-goal attempt. Through two exhibitions, Fields has targeted top WR Garrett Wilson four times, but all four have gone down as incompletions. It's unclear of coach Aaron Glenn will trot out the starters in Friday's preseason finale against the Eagles, but if he doesn't, Fields will be under center for New York's Week 1 matchup with the Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Fields completed three of four passes for 42 yards and rushed twice for 14 yards and a touchdown during the Jets' 30-10 preseason win over the Packers on Saturday night.
EDGE Analysis
The first-team offense took the field for the Jets to start the game, and Fields was able to lead a 10-play, 79-yard drive that he capped off with a 13-yard touchdown run on New York's first possession. The veteran offseason addition was done for the night following the score, but he had his moments as a passer as well with 12- and 24-yard completions to Andrew Beck. Fields' first foray in his new offensive system has to be deemed a success, and he's likely to get even more reps during next Saturday night's exhibition against the Giants.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Thursday that Fields (toe) will suit up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Packers, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Glenn didn't say how much run New York's starting units will get Saturday, so it remains to be seen whether Fields and company will suit up for more than a few drives, but at this stage in the preseason it's uncommon for starters to handle more than a quarter. Fields has been a full participant in 11-on-11 drills since suffering a dislocated toe in practice late July, albeit while wearing a plastic shield on his cleat, but there now appear to be no tangible limitations regarding his activity level. Rich Cimini of ESPN reports that the Jets' passing game has struggled to find its groove throughout the early stages of training camp, so Saturday's preseason opener will represent a chance for Fields to alleviate those concerns.

Fields is practicing with a plastic shield on his cleat to protect his dislocated toe, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
"We get our feet stepped on all the time at practice, so it just felt normal at first when I got stepped on. But I tried walking off and it just felt weird, like something was stuck in my toe," Fields said. "I didn't know what to think. I just knew something was wrong. ... Luckily, they said it was just dislocated." Fields has returned to team drills this week, and there's been zero concern out of Jets camp that the quarterback is dealing with any sort of long-term issue. Barring a setback, Fields will be under center for the Week 1 opener.
