A source tells ProFootballTalk an appeal hearing on Josh Gordon's suspension has been scheduled for late July. Gordon reportedly faces a minimum one-year ban as a Stage 3 violator of the league's substance abuse policy. The hearing could be canceled if the NFL and NFLPA work out a deal to reduce the suspension. Nearing two months since the Gordon suspension saga began, it appears an end may finally be in sight.

A source tells ProFootballTalk.com that an appeal hearing on Josh Gordon's case has not been scheduled yet. It's been nearly two months since news of Gordon's third positive drug test as a pro broke. Yet the NFL is in no rush to officially seal the star receiver's fate. Per PFT, there haven't even been any talks on a possible settlement. As a Stage 3 offender, the widespread is belief is that Gordon will end up with a 16-game ban following his appeal hearing. Expect the announcement to come before Browns' camp opens on July 25.

The Browns expect to learn the length of Josh Gordon's suspension before training camp. Browns camp begins July 25. "We haven't been given a date, but I think in fairness to us, the league would let us know (before camp)," coach Mike Pettine said. Gordon is expected to be handed a 16-game ban for his Stage 3 violation of the league's substance-abuse policy.

Josh Gordon was issued a speeding ticket in Strongsville, Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend, while his passenger was cited for marijuana possession. The speeding ticket is obviously a non-story, but it shows a remarkable lack of common sense and self awareness for a player in Gordon's situation - appealing a year-long suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy - to get caught with someone with marijuana. The easy inference, of course, is that the weed didn't just belong to Gordon's friend. The situation will undoubtedly complicate Gordon's appeal of his ban, and make it far more likely the 16-game punishment is upheld. Gordon is risking a lifetime ban with his reckless behavior. It's a depressing waste of talent for a 23-year-old wideout who just won the league's receiving title.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer says Josh Gordon was in Stage 3 of the league's substance-abuse program at the time of his latest alleged positive test. It's a crucial distinction because a violation while in Stage 3 carries a minimum suspension of one year. Afterward, players must apply for reinstatement to the league. Meanwhile, both Gordon and the league have maintained complete silence on the matter since the story broke in early May. Gordon's camp is appealing, the grounds of which are unknown.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam gave embattled WR Josh Gordon a vote of confidence on Monday. Unlike the Jaguars with Justin Blackmon, the Browns aren't ready to throw in the towel on their troubled No. 1 receiver. "Josh is learning and growing and improving as a person,'' Haslam said. "All of us have made mistakes when we were that age. We're counting on Josh being a good football player for the Browns for a long time to come." Haslam went on to call Gordon a "core" player. Still only 23, Gordon is believed to be facing an 8-16 game ban.
