Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post confirms that Dolphins LT Jake Long's rookie contract will void after the 2012 season.
The consistently unreliable South Florida Sun-Sentinel claimed last week that Long's rookie deal had added a sixth year and would extend through 2013. As we suspected, that is not the case. Long is entering a contract season, and the perennial Pro Bowler will surely command one of the richest left tackle deals in league history. Browns LT Joe Thomas signed an eight-year, $92 million contract with $44 million guaranteed last August.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel claims that Dolphins LT Jake Long is under contract through 2013 despite initial reports that his rookie deal was for five years and would expire after 2012.
We've found the Sun-Sentinel to be perhaps the least reliable newspaper in the country when it comes to NFL and Dolphins news, so take this with a grain of salt. Beat writer Omar Kelly claims that Long's deal added a sixth season when he earned a rookie-year Pro Bowl berth. We were under the impression that Long's sixth year voided and was always expected to, and therefore was not even included when the rookie deal was initially reported.

Dolphins LT Jake Long will miss next week's Pro Bowl due to a biceps and left knee injury.
He'll be replaced by Ryan Clady. Long tore his right biceps in Week 16 after playing through a "troublesome" left knee injury for the season's first 15 weeks. Long has been selected to four career Pro Bowls, but only played in one.

Dolphins placed LT Jake Long on injured reserve with a torn right biceps muscle, ending his season.
Arguably the NFL's best left tackle when healthy, Long's performance took a step back this season due to a multitude of injuries. His biceps injury will likely require surgery. Long turns 27 in May and is due an $11.2 million base salary in 2012. It will be the last season on Long's rookie contract.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald suggests LT Jake Long as a trade candidate this offseason.
Salguero isn't reporting here, he's simply saying a trade might make sense. Long will make $11.2 million in 2012, the final year of his contract. He's been injured and played at well below his normal Pro Bowl levels throughout this season. If the Dolphins aren't going to re-sign Long, they could use him as a chip to move up in the draft. A franchise quarterback figures to be a top priority for Miami come April.

Dolphins LT Jake Long tore his right biceps in the Week 16 loss to the Patriots, a source tells ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Although Long has been one of the more durable and effective players in the league since going No. 1 overall in 2008, his injuries are starting to pile up. He started this year with a back issue, sat out Week 15 due to a knee ailment and has also had shoulder problems. It's unclear if this tear will require surgery. John Jerry is expected to fill in against the Jets in the season finale.

Dolphins LT Jake Long left Sunday's Week 16 game against the Patriots with an apparent arm injury.
This injury doesn't look related to the back injury that kept Long out of last week's game against the Bills. Before that scratch, Long hadn't missed a game in his career.

Dolphins declared LT Jake Long (back) inactive for Week 15 against the Bills.
Long made the trip to Buffalo, but will miss his first game in his four-year career. John Jerry is expected to start at left tackle, marking a significant downgrade on the annual Pro Bowler. Meanwhile, it's hovering around freezing and flurrying in Buffalo. The rest of the Dolphins' inactives: RB Steve Slaton, OLB Koa Misi, OL Will Barker, OL Ray Feinga, TE Jeron Mastrud and DE Ryan Baker.

Jake Long was forced from Sunday's game with a lower back injury. His return is questionable.
Long was slow to get up and had to come off the field after battling with Trent Cole. He went into the locker room for further observation. Nate Garner replaces him at left tackle for now.
