A team source tells the Palm Beach Post re-signing LT Jake Long will be a "top priority" for the Dolphins this offseason. The developing consensus has been that Long's days in Miami are numbered, but the Dolphins will reportedly have upwards of $50 million in cap space this offseason. Using the franchise tag on Long would cost $15.4 million, while any long-term deal would likely have to include in the neighborhood of $40 million guaranteed. Long's play has slipped the past two seasons as injuries have inhibited his range of motion, but he'll still be only 28 in 2013. How rookie Jonathan Martin fares in his absence the final four games of 2012 could be critical to Long's Miami future.

Dolphins placed LT Jake Long (triceps) on injured reserve, ending his season. The No. 1 pick in the 2008 draft will end up missing six games total in the past two seasons. He's battled up arm injuries since 2010, which may explain the dropoff in his effectiveness. Long is due to hit free agency in the offseason. It would cost the organization over $15 million to apply the franchise tag, which could signal the end of his Dolphins career.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, it would cost the Dolphins $15.365 million to use the franchise tag on LT Jake Long in 2013. It's a ton of money for a player whose effectiveness has waned in the face of nagging injuries. Long is currently on the shelf after he sustained a triceps injury Sunday and could be done for the season. Schefter is the latest to suggest that Long may have played his final game as a Dolphin because the team can't -- or doesn't want to -- pony up that $15 million. Rookie Jonathan Martin projects to get a tryout at left tackle over the final four games.

NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reports that the Dolphins fear LT Jake Long tore his triceps in Sunday's loss to the Patriots. A Monday MRI will determine the injury's extent, but team doctors have seen countless injuries like this and typically have a pretty good feel for what happened after a short examination on the sideline. "It doesn't look good," one source told Darlington when asked about Long's injury. Long, 27, has become increasingly injury prone and at the same time ineffective in recent seasons. He's scheduled for unrestricted free agency in 2013.

Dolphins LT Jake Long left Sunday's Week 13 game against the Patriots with a left triceps injury. Long walked to the locker room near the end of the first quarter and is questionable to return. Jonathan Martin is on at left tackle and Nate Garner is at right tackle.

The Miami Herald suggests LT Jake Long is a candidate for the franchise tag next season. Long is in the third season of a progressive decline, and the Dolphins aren't going to pay him like an elite NFL tackle. He's allowed four sacks already this year and has struggled mightily in recent weeks. Under the current franchise tender, it would cost Miami $15.36 million to re-sign Long on a one-year deal. His rookie contract was voided for 2013 due to playing-time incentives.

Jake Long is Pro Football Focus' 43rd-ranked tackle through four weeks. Long is struggling as the Dolphins move away from a power scheme and into Joe Philbin's West Coast offense. Perhaps the accumulation of knee, back, shoulder and bicep injuries has gotten to him. It's certainly bad timing for a down year as Long's rookie contract is up at the end of the season. There's no way he'll get the eight-year, $92 million Joe Thomas got from the Browns at this rate.

Dolphins LT Jake Long (MCL) is listed as probable for Week 1 after returning to full practice on Friday. Long got in limited sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, but was always expected to suit up for the first game of the Ryan Tannehill era. Coming off a 2011 where he dealt with various nagging injuries, Long's health will be worth keeping an eye on this season.

A source tells the Palm Beach Post that LT Jake Long's MCL sprain is of the low-grade variety. "He's fine, tweak," the source said, referring to the injury's extent. The source added that the Dolphins dodged a bullet "big time" after Monday's scary in-practice injury. Long sounds more likely than not to be ready by Week 1.
