According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have made free agent LT Jake Long "multiple" contract offers.
There were reports in January the Dolphins made a "low-ball attempt" to lock Long up in-season, but this is the first we've heard of offseason offers. Clearly, none of them have been to Long's liking. Beat writer Armando Salguero is "getting the idea" Long's side isn't budging on its demands, and "sensing it has leverage." Long said Tuesday it was on the Dolphins to make a deal happen. They must believe it's on him to be more reasonable.

The Miami Herald reports free agent LT Jake Long is believed to be seeking at least $10 million annually, and that the Dolphins are "pessimistic" about their chances of re-signing him.
$10 million is hardly prohibitive for a top-flight left tackle, but Long has been anything but that the past two seasons. However, he'll still only be 28 in 2013, and there should be no shortage of teams willing to gamble on a return to form if he reaches the open market. The Dolphins are believed to be unwilling to offer Long more than $6-$7 million per season. There's a long time between now and free agency, but Long is looking less and less likely to remain in Miami with every passing day.

ESPN's James Walker believes impending free agent LT Jake Long is "long gone in Miami unless he takes a home-team discount."
This has become the popular opinion. The Miami Herald reported earlier in the week that the Dolphins made a "low-ball attempt" to re-sign Long during the season, and they apparently don't want to pay him any more than $6-$7 million per year on his next contract. Despite declining play as the result of various injuries, Long still thinks he should be compensated as one of the top tackles in the league. He'll likely find it somewhere on the open market.

A team source tells the Miami Herald the Dolphins made a "low-ball attempt" to lock-up impending free agent LT Jake Long during the season.
The Dolphins have sent mixed signals on their feelings toward the former No. 1 overall pick, but it's clear they're not going to sign him to a deal his pre-injury reputation would have commanded. That could be a problem, as a different team source tells the Herald Long "likes the idea of being the best at what he does and one way he proves to everyone that he is is by being the highest paid at what he does." According to the source, there's a "considerable amount of professional ego there." With neither side appearing willing to negotiate on the other's terms, it's looking more likely that Long will walk.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland says he's had "numerous" conversations with impending free agent LT Jake Long.
"Jake [Long] has a decision to make, we have a decision to make. Its a very, very difficult decision, complicated negotiation," Ireland said. Ireland also wouldn't rule out using the franchise tag this season. Long made $11.2 million in 2012, and the tentative franchise number for offensive tackles in 2013 is a whopping $15.36 million.

The Palm Beach Post says the franchise tag "seems out of the question" for Dolphins LT Jake Long.
There's no question that Long will be one of the top priorities for the Dolphins this season, but his play has tailed off over the past couple of years while he's also dealt with various injuries. The tentative franchise tag number for an offensive tackle in 2013 is a whopping $15.36 million, but Miami would like to have Long back "if he accepted something like half of the $11.2 million" he made in 2012.

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune does not believe the Bears will go after impending free agent LT Jake Long.
It's very difficult to project the market for a formerly elite player who appears to be in his decline phase at age 27. Pompei suggests that Long will command "somewhere in the vicinity of $11 million a year, and a monster signing bonus." The Bears are desperate for help keeping Jay Cutler upright, but they don't have the cap space for that.

The Miami Herald believes the Dolphins would like to keep impending free agent LT Jake Long "if the price is right."
It's not exactly a guarantee the No. 1 pick of the 2008 draft will re-sign with Miami, but both the Herald and Palm Beach Post are on the record as expecting the Dolphins to at least make a run at keeping their blindside protector. There had been a budding consensus Long was on his way out of town. There's still a strong chance that ends up the case, but Long shouldn't be ruled out of the Dolphins' plans just yet.
