NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent Jairus Byrd could still re-sign with the Bills.
It sounds like Byrd's demands have spooked the open market. Rapsheet would also be "really surprised" if the Redskins got into the bidding on free agency's top safety. Byrd was at one point believed to be seeking $10 million annually, but he may end up struggling to get $8 million.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reports free agent Jairus Byrd is still seeking more than $8 million per season, and that his asking price is "scaring some teams off."
Some reports have had Byrd seeking as much as $10 million per season, with many suggesting $9 million. The Chicago Tribune agrees with Breer that it's now closer to $8 million. Byrd wants to be the highest-paid safety in football. If Byrd escapes the first 24 hours of free agency without a deal, it won't be a good sign for his demands.

The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley is hearing that chatter of free agent FS Jairus Byrd landing with the Dolphins is a "smokescreen."
The smokescreen was apparently leaked by Byrd's reps to the NFL Network, which reported Sunday the Fins were "expressing real interest" in this year's top free agent safety. It may be a sign Byrd's camp isn't satisfied with his contract offers to date, which wouldn't be shocking. Byrd is seeking $9 million per year. That's an awful lot to pay a safety with 4.68 speed.

A source tells CSN Philly that the Eagles haven't shown much interest in free agent S Jairus Byrd "yet."
The Eagles have had a gaping hole at safety ever since Brian Dawkins left and Byrd is a true difference maker at the position. But GM Howie Roseman has continually stated his intention not to overspend in free agency, and Byrd is seeking to become the highest paid safety in the game at a minimum of $9 million annually. It would be a surprise if the Eagles got in on the high-stakes bidding here.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Dolphins are "expressing real interest" in free agent FS Jairus Byrd.
Byrd would be quite the upgrade on outgoing FS Chris Clemons, although safety play wasn't a weakness in Miami last year. RapSheet reports the Fins are "gearing up for another big year in free agency." Miami committed a four-year, $32 million deal to LCB Brent Grimes, and is expected to fork over $9.5 million annually to LT Branden Albert on Tuesday. Byrd will command $10 million per year.

The Browns did not inquire about free agent FS Jairus Byrd on the first day of the NFL's negotiating period.
The dots connect Byrd to the Browns due to his ties to coach Mike Pettine, but to this point Cleveland hasn't shown substantive interest. The Rams did contact Byrd on Saturday, though they are in far worse cap condition than the Browns. There's still plenty of time for Cleveland to enter the Byrd bidding.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Rams have inquired on free agent FS Jairus Byrd.
The Rams had some of the worst safety play in the league last season and Byrd would be a major upgrade over Rodney McLeod. In addition to St. Louis, Byrd has also been linked to the Browns and hasn't ruled out a return to Buffalo. Byrd is reportedly seeking an average annual salary of at least $9 million per season.

Free agent FS Jairus Byrd says he's still open to re-signing with the Bills.
"At this point I'm definitely keeping all my options open," said Byrd. "See whatever happens in free agency. The lines of communication are open with them as well. So no door is shut." GM Doug Whaley said Monday that the Bills also haven't shut the door on Byrd. Byrd will test the market when the free agency negotiating period opens this weekend and would have to be blown away to re-sign with the Bills before then. He'll likely become the league's highest paid safety.

Bills GM Doug Whaley says the team remains open to re-signing free agent Jairus Byrd.
Whaley let Monday's deadline pass without applying the franchise tag. "It's a negotiation," Whaley said. "We still have some time to get it done so we're not closing the door on it. We're hopeful. We're optimistic, but we'll see where it goes from here." Seeking a top-dollar, multi-year deal, Byrd will only be back if he finds his market cooler than expected. That's unlikely.
