Buccaneers CB Eric Wright failed his 49ers physical and was immediately released by Tampa Bay. The Bucs traded Wright to the 49ers for a conditional 2014 late-round pick last Friday. Wright was arrested for DUI the previous Friday night in Los Angeles, and San Francisco's failure of Wright on his physical suggests they did not know of the arrest before the transaction. The Buccaneers wanted nothing to do with Wright and cut him outright. He's now an unrestricted free agent. The 49ers will be on the lookout for cornerbacks throughout August.

New 49ers CB Eric Wright was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with an unknown misdemeanor last Friday night. Wright posted $5,000 bond and was released. This very well may have played a part in the Bucs' decision to ship him out on Friday. Various beat writers reported, following the trade, that the Bucs were planning to release Wright had they not found a trade partner. They did well to secure a late-round pick.

The Tampa Bay Times projects Bucs CB Eric Wright to start opposite LCB Darrelle Revis, with second-rounder Johnthan Banks manning the slot. Reporter Stephen Holder believes Banks would have to be "superb" to beat out Wright in camp. Wright is still only 28 (next week), and barely a year removed from signing his since voided five-year, $37.5 million deal. He's a strong bounce-back candidate provided he can put his injury and suspension-plagued 2012 behind him.

Bucs CB Eric Wright believes he's an "exceptional player," but that "the world has yet to see that in its entirety." Wright apparently believes he's on the world stage. "I need to do everything I can to make this team win," Wright said. Coach Greg Schiano hasn't made Wright any guarantees since the Bucs decided to keep him, but he's the early favorite to start over second-rounder Johnthan Banks opposite Darrelle Revis.

The Tampa Bay Times expects Eric Wright to open the season as the Buccaneers' No. 2 cornerback. Second-round pick Johnathan Banks will get a long look, but the Bucs "don't see any need to fast-track" the rookie, and may lean toward veteran incumbent Wright. With Darrelle Revis taking on Island duty, the Bucs' No. 2 corner will receive constant safety help. 2012 UDFA Leonard Johnson is an underdog here.

Bucs coach Greg Schiano confirmed after the draft that the right cornerback job will be open to competition. Incumbent Eric Wright, rookie Johnthan Banks, and 2012 UDFA find Leonard Johnson will all be in the mix to get picked on opposite Darrelle Revis. Revis will most likely wind up shadowing opposing No. 1 receivers, with the right corner covering No. 2s while receiving "safety help." Wright has plenty of talent to hold off Banks, but Schiano promises it'll "come as part of the competition."

Bucs CB Eric Wright's new one-year, $1.5 million deal includes no guaranteed money. It means Wright must avoid any more slip-ups before Week 1. It's unlikely that the Bucs would decide to cut Wright, but they hold all the cards. Going on 28, Wright could play himself into a nice contract if he stays healthy and out of trouble this season.

Pewter Report reports that CB Eric Wright is "Plan B" for the Bucs if they can't land Darrelle Revis in a trade. Wright is the best corner on the Bucs' roster, but that isn't saying much. Owed $7.7 million, he'll also have to agree to a "much reduced salary." A Revis deal isn't expected to be consummated until the draft or shortly before it.
