Drew Brees completed 29-of-35 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's Week 5, 26-18 win over the Bears. Brees didn't take many shots downfield in this one. He targeted his running backs on 17 of his 35 throws, taking what the Chicago defense was giving him. Brees did connect with Jimmy Graham on a nice 38-yarder and Nick Toon for 35 yards, but that was mostly it in the vertical attack. Brees' consecutive 300-yard passing games streak ends at nine games. Both of his touchdowns went to Pierre Thomas. The 5-0 Saints travel to New England next Sunday.

Drew Brees completed 30-of-39 passes for 413 yards and four touchdowns in Monday night's Week 4, 38-17 victory over the Dolphins. The New Orleans offense put on a clinic, and the Saints are now 4-0 as they sit comfortably atop the NFC South at the quarter pole. The Dolphins took Jimmy Graham away for stretches of time in the first half, so Brees instead worked it to Darren Sproles with ease on screens, flat routes, and wheel routes out of the backfield. There's no stopping this team. After four games, Brees is on pace to complete 444-of-664 passes for 5,736 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The Saints travel to take on the 3-1 Bears next Sunday.

Drew Brees completed 26-of-46 passes for 322 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 2 win over the Bucs. Brees really struggled against disguised zones of the Bucs. Twice he was picked off when a linebacker baited him into thinking he was in man coverage and then dropped off to a receiver behind him. Still, Brees engineered a late drive with no timeouts and a short clock to get his team into a short field-goal for Garrett Hartley. Expect a far better outing in a Week 3 home game against the Cardinals.

It should be noted Oakland's pass rush was an absolute joke on Friday night, literally giving Brees a dozen free seconds in the pocket on one particular first-quarter pass play. Brees has been his typically stellar self in August. Through two exhibition games, he's completed 21-of-28 passes (75 percent) for 267 yards (9.54 YPA), the touchdown, and zero turnovers.

Coach Sean Payton blamed Drew Brees' 2012 struggles on the lack of a running game. "Just attempts," Payton said. "I think that it's easy to get into the mind-set that we throw it well, let's continue to. There's a whole other element in football." New Orleans ranked No. 25 in the league in rushing last season, but they were No. 6 the year before. Despite leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns, Brees threw 19 interceptions. Look for Payton to pound the running game more with Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, and Chris Ivory in 2013.

Drew Brees says he's "always willing to consider anything" that will improve the Saints' cap situation. Brees was put on the spot about Tom Brady's team-friendly extension in a Wednesday radio interview. It's a nice gesture, but probably an empty one. Brees' cap numbers are already colossal for each of the four years remaining on his deal. The Saints will look elsewhere for cap relief.

In an interview with Pro Football Talk, Drew Brees said he sees the 2013 season as a "new era" for the franchise. "We have as much to prove to each other as we do to anybody else," Brees said. "How do we get back to feeling like we felt before when we were winning games and winning championships?" Most of the Saints key pieces on offense will be returning next season, though Devery Henderson is a free agent. When asked about the possibility on Randy Moss joining the Saints, Brees initially laughed and suggested that "you never know how things shake out." Moss previously worked out for the Saints during his 2011 retirement.

Drew Brees completed 29-of-43 passes for 396 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in the Saints' Week 17 loss to the Panthers. Another shootout and another loss for the Saints -- not that it matters to fantasy owners. Brees went over 300 yards ten times this season on his way to 5,177 passing yards, the second straight year he's gone over the 5K mark. He also threw for 43 touchdowns, giving him a mind-boggling 89 in the last two seasons. With offensive wizard Sean Payton returning to the fold in 2013, there won't be many better bets at the quarterback position. Brees has missed one game in his seven years as a Saint and never averaged less than 276.1 passing yards per day.
