Smith (knee) was officially placed on the physically unable to perform/active list Sunday, which means he will not be able to practice or play for the Jets for the first six weeks of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Smith tore his ACL back in December and was always a strong candidate to be placed on the PUP list. His absence shouldn't shake up the depth chart too much, especially with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker expected to dominate the wideout targets this season.

Smith (knee) hasn't been able to go full speed in training camp to date, NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's rookie season was a muddled mess, as he suffered fractured ribs and a punctured lung in training camp that wiped away all game action until Week 3. Thereafter, he found little chemistry with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, corralling nine of 28 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown, including no catches on three targets in the fateful Week 14 game in which he tore an ACL. Smith has been rehabbing in the interim, but considering the injury occurred on Dec. 13, it's no surprise that the PUP list is his current home.

The Jets placed Smith (knee) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith had torn his ACL last December and was not expected to be ready for the start of training camp. The team has yet to detail any sort of timeline for his return, however, leaving him questionable to play Week 1. Entering his second season in the league, the Ohio State product is expected to assume a larger role on offense in 2016 due to his open-field speed and ability to stretch the field in the passing game.

Smith (knee) is expected to begin training camp on the PUP list, making him "doubtful" to play in Week 1 against the Bengals, Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
The recovery timetable for an ACL tear has dwindled in recent years, but such injuries need to be explored on a case-by-case basis. Considering Smith's rookie campaign came to a close in Week 14, it's no surprise that the final stages of his rehabilitation will extend into training camp, at least, and potentially into the regular season. Once healthy, though, he'll have a prime opportunity to succeed in a receiving corps that's unproven behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Smith (knee) probably won't be ready for the start of training camp, ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given that he tore an ACL in December, Smith is highly unlikely to be ready for camp. The real question is whether he'll be ready for Week 1, as it's possible he'll open his season on the PUP list, which would require him to miss the first six weeks. The 2015 second-rounder could still have a key role in the Jets' wideout-dependent offense once he's healthy.

Smith tore his ACL Sunday against the Titans.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie wideout's season is over and Smith -- who caught nine passes for 115 yards and a TD in 10 games this season -- is thus a candidate to be placed on IR by the Jets.

Smith (knee) will have an MRI on Monday, Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith had to be carted off the field during Sunday's win over the Titans, leaving extra snaps for Quincy Enunwa. With Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall still dominating the targets, Smith's absence wouldn't have much impact on the New York offense.

Smith had three pass targets, but posted no stats before leaving the game with a leg injury Sunday against the Titans.
EDGE Analysis
With Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker seeing most of Ryan Fitzpatrick's pass targets, Smith had a very quiet day before getting injured and carted off the field. He's now had zero receptions in three of his last four games.

Smith (foot) caught two passes on three targets for 33 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Dolphins.
EDGE Analysis
Although he only saw three of Ryan Fitzpatrick's 37 pass targets, the rookie was able to score his first NFL touchdown. In addition, he caught more than one pass in a game for the first time since Week 4.
