Daniel Thomas' hamstring tweak is "very legitimately a day-to-day situation," according to the Miami Herald.
The Dolphins are still holding out hope that Thomas will play Monday night after missing Thursday's practice. Even if he does play, Thomas belongs on fantasy benches as a pure backup to Reggie Bush.

Coach Tony Sparano said that rookie RB Daniel Thomas is still learning how to pass protect.
While the majority of Miami's starters will sit out tonight's preseason finale, Thomas will play. In addition to his struggles as a runner between the tackles, protecting the quarterback is an issue as well. "In the beginning it was overwhelming a little bit," Sparano said of Thomas. The Dolphins don't appear prepared to use Thomas very much at all in the beginning of the season.

The Palm Beach Post believes rookie RB Daniel Thomas has lost coach Tony Sparano's confidence.
Thomas didn't see the field until the second half of Saturday's game, managing just 2.3 yards per carry. The Post's Brian Biggane senses that Sparano has lost trust in Thomas' ability to earn the tough yards between the tackles after chewing out the rookie for tentative running at the goal-line in Preseason Week 2. That being the case, the Fins are going to be a more pass-oriented offense than originally believed.

According to the Palm Beach Post, rookie Daniel Thomas continued to struggle in practice at Dolphins camp this week.
Thomas apparently didn't respond well to another bad preseason game, and the Post confirms he "hasn't had a great camp so far." The coaching staff called out Thomas for "not going full-speed in practice" and "tip-toeing" behind the line of scrimmage. These are more ominous signs for a player who looks like a poor scheme fit in Miami. The team signed Larry Johnson as insurance, and L.J. reportedly took practice reps ahead of Thomas this week.

The Dolphins are disappointed with rookie Daniel Thomas' physicality so far in camp and preseason games, and want him to run with more power.
Thomas had an intriguing skill set coming out of Kansas State, but he's more Matt Forte than Marion Barber. And the Fins want him to be MB3. "(Coach Tony Sparano) was just telling me I need to get it in there and to stop tippy-toeing and everything like that," said Thomas. "It was true though." The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero believes the Larry Johnson signing at least "suggested" that the Dolphins aren't pleased so far with Thomas.

Dolphins rookie Daniel Thomas has managed just 57 yards on 16 carries (3.56 YPC) through two preseason games.
We watched all 16 runs on NFL.com's Preseason Live package, and Thomas looks pretty ordinary. He's had 3-4 legitimately good runs total, showing little big-play ability. Billed as a power back out of K-State, Thomas has struggled to push piles and break tackles, doing well to fall forward but going down too easily on first contact. One of Thomas' college calling cards was his versatility, but the Fins haven't put that to any use. So far, Thomas looks like a rookie capable of only getting what's blocked.

Daniel Thomas ran for 52 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries in the Dolphins' second preseason game Friday night.
Thomas still seems to be getting used to the speed of the game, and he was stuffed twice after replacing Reggie Bush at the goal line when working with Miami's first-team offense. Thomas did look quick and decisive on one 10-yard second-quarter run up the gut, but we're not close to sold on him as a bankable fantasy asset. Bush will play ahead of him to open the season.

Coach Tony Sparano complimented Daniel Thomas' skills as a receiver out of the backfield.
Thomas is underrated as a receiver because he weighs in at 230 pounds and is a powerful runner between the tackles. Even Sparano sounded surprised. "He catches the ball well out of the backfield," he said. "That's not a major skill for a lot of big backs." Despite Reggie Bush's presence as the starter, Thomas remains a good bet for 15-18 touches per game.

Dolphins agreed to terms with No. 62 overall pick RB Daniel Thomas on a four-year contract.
Thomas was lauded for his between-the-tackles physical style and underrated receiving skills at Kansas State, and the Fins traded up to make him their feature back. Reggie Bush will eat into his snaps on passing downs, but Thomas is still a good bet for 250 touches as a rookie. That number could go down if the Dolphins add a veteran backup such as Marion Barber, Ricky Williams, or Ronnie Brown.
