According to 640 AM Miami, RB Daniel Thomas passed his concussion test, but will be held out of this Sunday's game against the Raiders. Lamar Miller is expected to serve as Reggie Bush's primary backup. Bush is set up for a big Week 2 workload.

Daniel Thomas (concussion) did not practice Wednesday. Players that sustain concussions on Sunday almost never gain clearance to practice by Wednesday. If Thomas can't go in Week 2, look for Lamar Miller to be active behind potential workhorse Reggie Bush.

The Dolphins did not update the status of Daniel Thomas (concussion) following Sunday's loss to the Texans. Thomas looked really woozy after taking a shot to the head from Texans S Glover Quin. He was quickly ruled out for the game, a sign that it could be a serious concussion. Reggie Bush figures to see a boost in touches if Thomas sits in Week 2.

Daniel Thomas exited Sunday's opener at the end of the first half after an apparent head injury. Thomas was separated from the football as S Glover Quinn laid a big hit on the second-year tailback. Thomas was clearly woozy as he made his way off the field and into the locker room. He may not return to this game.

Daniel Thomas earned praise from Dolphins coach Joe Philbin after rushing for 31 yards on five carries and catching a pass in Wednesday night's preseason finale against the Cowboys. In the doghouse recently as revealed on Hard Knocks, Thomas had a 19-yard run and earned the start over rookie Lamar Miller with Reggie Bush getting the night off. "He's definitely making progress," Philbin said. "Running the ball more physical." Thomas is worth a late-round flier in fantasy drafts. His current ADP is the late 11th round, making Thomas an affordable target.

Tuesday night's episode of Hard Knocks revealed that Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas has been in coach Joe Philbin's doghouse of late. After flashing questionable instincts and refusing to run with the power befitting a 230-pound back last season, Thomas has shown a lack of personal responsibility this summer. "I'm getting a little queasy about you," said Philbin. "You got to take responsibility for your own career, what you're doing and when you're doing it. I don't want to come talk to you again." To this point, Thomas looks like a second-round bust. As he's clearly not a favorite of the new coaching staff, perhaps the Lions will inquire into his availability.

Coach Joe Philbin admitted that keeping two running backs happy can be "difficult." Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas have both set lofty rushing goals for themselves. But in Philbin's West Coast scheme, there might not be enough carries to go around. During his five seasons in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers was the team's second-leading rusher three times. Our 2012 Draft Guide projects 9.0 carries per game for Thomas this season.

Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas remains in the lead for the No. 2 job behind Reggie Bush. Thomas is feeling the heat from Steve Slaton (currently third in line) and Lamar Miller, but has a hold on the job for now. With Bush being used more as a receiver this season, Thomas could realistically challenge for the team lead in carries. That is, if he can improve on his 3.5 rookie-season YPC.

Dolphins 2011 second-round pick Daniel Thomas is expected to be pushed for his No. 2 back role in training camp. Thomas is being evaluated by a new coaching staff in a new scheme, so he's no longer on scholarship after a miserable rookie year. Thomas averaged 3.52 YPC, battled injuries, fumbled twice on 165 runs, and converted a pathetic 3-of-13 chances in short-yardage situations. Really not a power back despite his large frame, Thomas will face competition from Lamar Miller and Steve Slaton.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Dolphins envision Daniel Thomas as the third-down back because of his hands and blocking ability. The Sun-Sentinel's reporting has been spotty at best, so take this news with a grain of salt. Although Thomas does possess underrated receiving skills, he's not on par with Reggie Bush or even rookie Lamar Miller in that department. New coach Joe Philbin has singled out blitz pickup as an area Thomas will have to concentrate on this summer. Thomas did show improvement in pass protection throughout his rookie season.
