Thompson re-signed with the Redskins on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson remains in Washington after receiving a second-round tender offer from the Redskins as a restricted free agent earlier this offseason. Last year, the 2013 fifth-round selection posted career highs across the board, accumulating 356 rushing yards on 68 attempts and catching 49 passes for 349 yards while totaling five touchdowns. With an average of 5.5 yards per carry since entering the league, and at least 35 catches in back-to-back seasons, Thompson is a great third-down option out of the Redskins backfield, where Rob Kelley and Matt Jones represent his biggest competitors for touches right now.

Washington has extended a second-round contract tender (worth $2.7 million) to Thompson, csnmidatlantic.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson thus remains a restricted free agent and in event that the running back signs an offer sheet with another team, Washington would receive a second-round pick as compensation if the team elected not to match such an offer. In 2016, Thompson emerged as one of the better third-down backs in the league, carrying 68 times for 356 yards and three TDs, while adding 49 catches (on 62 targets) for 349 yards and a pair of receiving scores. Assuming he remains with Washington in 2017, the likely outcome, Thompson will be in line to reprise his change-of-pace role in a backfield that also rosters Rob Kelley, Mack Brown and Matt Jones.

Thompson rushed the ball three times for five yards while hauling in six passes for 37 yards in Sunday's loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson led the team in receptions in Washington's season-finale, recording his best receiving performance since Week 7. The 26-year-old provided a nice counter to starter Rob Kelley throughout the season, cementing his role as the team's third down back. He ends his 2016-17 campaign with 68 rushing attempts for 356 yards and three touchdowns while adding 49 receptions for 349 yards and two touchdowns. He will now be a restricted free agent this offseason.

Thompson rushed the ball three times for 20 yards and a touchdown while hauling in one 17-yard touchdown reception in Saturday's win against the Bears.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson wasn't given many opportunities Saturday, but made the most of the ones he had. He ran the ball in from seven yards out halfway through the first quarter for Washington's first score of the day. He followed it up with a little dump pass from Kirk Cousins on 17-yard line, taking it untouched to the end zone. It's his first multi-score performance of the season, which could prompt the Redskins to expand his role next Sunday against the Giants.

Thompson had two rushes for 10 yards and five receptions for 26 yards in Monday's 26-15 loss to Carolina.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson got back to his usual role catching passes out of the backfield after he was shut out of receptions in Week 15. Starting back Rob Kelley struggled greatly on the ground, gaining just eight yards on nine carries. Thompson hasn't had more than four carries since Week 9 but he could be in line for an increased role if Rob Kelley's struggles continue.

Thompson rushed the ball three times for 38 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Eagles.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson secured his second rushing touchdown of the season, with the first coming in Week 1. It was also the first game in which he failed to record a reception, as starter Rob Kelley was the only back with a catch. Thompson has averaged over 12 yards a carry in his limited touches the past two weeks, but with Kelley's lackluster performances the past few weeks, Washington may look to give the backup extended reps as the season winds down.

Thompson ran the ball twice for 24 yards while hauling in one reception for 21 yards in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson has become more faded out of the running attack ever since rookie Rob Kelley took over as starter. However, he continues to prove to be an asset in the passing game, especially in third down situations. Look for him to rebound from a below average week next Sunday against the Eagles.

Thompson (illness) is officially active for Sunday's Week 13 tilt versus the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson's active status was largely expected, as he'd put in a full practice Friday after missing Thursday's session. He'll once again serve as a complement to primary ball carrier Rob Kelley while also profiling as Kirk Cousins' top pass-catching option out of the backfield.

Thompson (illness) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson was limited due to illness Thursday, but he returned for a full practice session to end this week, which bodes well for his availability against the Cardinals come Sunday.

Thompson was limited in Thursday's practice due to an illness, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Perhaps Thompson became afflicted with the illness in the midst of practice in order to be termed a limited participant, but we'll have a better grasp on his health once the Redskins release Friday's injury report. When healthy, he handles a change-of-pace role behind starting running back Rob Kelley.
