Thompson rushed four times for 23 yards and a touchdown, and caught two passes (on two targets) for 16 yards in Monday night's loss to the Steelers.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson served as backup to Matt Jones on Monday night, but the Redskins' second-half hole required more passing situations tailored toward Thompson's skill set. That resulted in him being in for a one-yard touchdown rush to start the fourth quarter, which boosting his fantasy value on the day. Although his 5.8 yards per carry looks good, it's hard to take much stock in Thompson's average given the Redskins' offensive struggles Monday.

Thompson (shoulder) wasn't present on the Redskins' injury report Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson avoided the report, and while starter Matt Jones (shoulder) did not, the latter was a full participant and even ditched his no-contact jersey both Wednesday and Thursday. If status quo holds throughout the weekend, Jones will be the No. 1 option Monday against the Steelers, with Thompson contained to pass-down work.

Thompson (shoulder) was listed as the number two running back in Washington's depth chart that was released on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson is listed as the No. 2 back behind Matt Jones (shoulder) and ahead of Rob Kelley, who has solidified the No. 3 slot. The 25-year-old is still nursing a shoulder injury and is questionable for Monday's Week 1 matchup with the Steelers. Look for more updates on Thompson's status to come later in the week.

Thompson (shoulder) won't play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Buccaneers, Master Tesfatsion of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
The second half of exhibition season will thus be wiped away due to discomfort in Thompson's knee and shoulder. With the regular season in mind, he could be poised for a greater workload due to the AC joint sprain currently plaguing Matt Jones. If the Redskins opt to contain Thompson to his typical pass-catching role, though, Rob Kelley appears to be next in line for first- and second-down work.

Coach Jay Gruden relayed that Thompson (shoulder/knee) will likely sit out Friday's preseason game against the Bills, the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Per CSN Mid-Atlantic, Thompson is nursing a sore knee and shoulder and Gruden would prefer for the running back to not "get banged around" in Friday's exhibition tilt. With top back Matt Jones set to miss the game, rookies Keith Marshall and Robert Kelley are in line to see more snaps, as the team continues to evaluate its depth RB options in advance of roster cut-downs. In his role as Washington's presumed primary third-down back, Thompson maintains a degree of fantasy utility, notably in PRR formats.

Thompson showed of his skill set in practice on Tuesday, putting together several impressive plays.
EDGE Analysis
The third-year man out of Florida State underwent surgery on his shoulder back in January, but he appears to have made a full recovery as he participated with the first-team offense in 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday. Matt Jones has the starting job locked down in Washington, but Thompson figures to compete with Mack Brown and rookie Keith Marshall for the main backup gig. The 25-year-old Thompson could edge out the others based on his pass-catching abilities, as he made several key receptions in Tuesday's practice.

Thompson, who has signed his exclusive rights tender with Washington, could experience an expanded role in 2016 following the departure of Alfred Morris to the Cowboys.
EDGE Analysis
Bit by the injury bug throughout his first three seasons, Thompson finally made his presence felt on the field in 2015, totaling 35 carries for 216 yards, 35 receptions (on 48 targets) for 240 yards, and two touchdown grabs in 13 games. However, he required surgery on Jan. 27 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, which is poised to impact his availability throughout the offseason program. Although he may lack for reps in May and June, Thompson is expected to serve as a change-of-pace option to Matt Jones at the start of training camp, assuming no more additions to the backfield.

Thompson (shoulder) is aiming to be healthy at the outset of training camp, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
After missing three games due to neck and shoulder issues in his third NFL season, Thompson underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder on Jan. 27. In the midst of a rehab, it's unclear if he'll be able to take part in offseason activities, but considering his recent remark, the ultimate goal appears to be clearance once training camp rolls around. Meanwhile, Washington's backfield is currently headed by Thompson and Matt Jones (groin), though there's always the chance that Alfred Morris returns at the right price. No matter the RB additions made in the coming months, Thompson displayed his versatility last season, recording 35 carries for 216 yards (6.2 YPC), 35 receptions (on 48 targets) for 240 yards, and two touchdown catches.

Thompson will undergo surgery on the torn labrum in his left shoulder Wednesday, The Washington Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
When healthy, Thompson showed off his chops as both a runner and pass-catcher this season, but a crowded backfield contained him to just 35 rushes and 35 receptions. Further hindering his overall output were injuries to his neck and shoulder that forced three DNPs over the course of the campaign, the latter of which is being remedied Wednesday. While his offseason will include rehabilitation, Washington brass must make a decision on the exclusive rights free agent as well as unrestricted free agent Alfred Morris, which will ultimately impact Thompson's potential workload in 2016.

Thompson caught all eight of the passes that came his way for 89 yards and added a 25-yard run in Sunday's loss to the Packers.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson caught five of his passes during the final six minutes of the game with the Green Bay defense dropping into deep zones and catch-and-run opportunities open. Thompson ranked fourth on the team in receptions and fifth in targets during the regular season. He could see added looks in 2016 should Matt Jones take over the starting role and Alfred Morris depart, opening up the No. 2 back job.
