Redskins TE Chris Cooley will not need more surgery on his troublesome left knee. This was determined during Cooley's Sunday visit to Dr. James Andrews' office. Cooley is dealing with a fractured left index finger and is expected to miss 3-5 more weeks. The fact that he won't need more knee surgery does increase the chances that Cooley will avoid injured reserve and return later this year.

Chris Cooley (finger, knee) said Friday that he'll definitely miss three weeks, but hopes to return later this season. It will depend on whether the Redskins hold a roster spot for him, which to this point appears somewhat likely. Cooley still has a Sunday visit scheduled with Dr. James Andrews to determine whether he needs more surgery on his bum knee.

Chris Cooley (finger, knee) will meet with Dr. James Andrews on Sunday to have his troublesome left knee examined. Already out for roughly six weeks as he recovers from finger surgery, Cooley could be sidelined even longer depending on what Dr. Andrews turns up. If Cooley's 2011 wasn't already down the drain, it probably is now. He's a strong candidate for injured reserve, and should be owned in zero percent of fantasy leagues.

Chris Cooley will have surgery on his fractured left index finger Wednesday. While rehabbing from his finger surgery, Cooley will also seek additional medical opinions on his troublesome left knee. Coach Mike Shanahan sounded resigned to losing Cooley for a significant amount of time, meaning a trip to injured reserve is likely. Cooley had just eight catches for 65 yards through five games.

Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan in D.C. reports that Chris Cooley's shattered left index finger is expected to keep him out for six weeks. Paulsen, who cites a league source, reports that Cooley will have surgery on Monday. The Skins may or may not decide to keep Cooley on I.R.; his effectiveness has been minimal this season. It's probably good news for Cooley long term because he'll be able to stay off his troublesome left knee. It's better news for Fred Davis in fantasy leagues. Davis won't have to "compete" for targets with Cooley, and should be a top-ten tight end option the rest of the way.

The Washington Times expects Chris Cooley's fractured finger to "keep him out for a while." Cooley broke his left index finger on a crushing hit from Nnamdi Asomugha, and did not return to Sunday's home loss to Philadelphia. "I'm frustrated that I can't keep playing and that I can't stay out there for us," said Cooley. "It just wasn't an option." Expect Fred Davis to continue to capitalize on Cooley's absence in Week 7 against Carolina.

Chris Cooley needs surgery on his left index finger. Cooley fractured the finger on a Nnamdi Asomugha hit in the first quarter Sunday and didn't return. It sounds like his finger has "shattered," rather than suffering a "clean break." There's no timetable yet, but Cooley figures to struggle as a pass-catcher even if he makes it back this season. Fred Davis will pick up a couple extra targets per game going forward.
