Chris Cooley insists his troublesome left knee came out of Sunday's win over the Giants "fine."
"There was a lot of anxiety before the game," Cooley acknowledged. Severely outplayed by Fred Davis, Cooley will continue to fight through knee pain and swelling all season. We'd recommend dropping him for Davis in most fantasy leagues.

Chris Cooley caught just two passes for 21 yards in Week 1 against the Giants.
Cooley started along with Fred Davis, but it became clear rather quickly that the latter is the one to watch in the passing game. The former Pro-Bowler Cooley is still a solid player in real life, but today's game is a pretty good indication that he's no longer going to be worth owning in fantasy.

Chris Cooley revealed that he's down to 234 pounds, 20 fewer than he's ever played in his football career.
"I think I'll be completely fine in the run game," he insisted. "I think I'll feel better when I'm running routes. I'm assuming I'll have more endurance taking 20 pounds of weight off. I'm a slow white guy, so we'll see." Cooley runs about a 4.7 or 4.8 forty at his normal weight. Listed as questionable for Week 1 with a knee injury, he can't be in fantasy lineups against the Giants.

Chris Cooley (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 1.
Cooley was limited in practice all week, and the coaching staff has been openly skeptical about whether he'll be able to play against the Giants. The tight end position is deep enough in fantasy that you should have better options.

Chris Cooley (knee) was limited again in Thursday's practice.
Coach Mike Shanahan indicated that Cooley is making strides. OC Kyle Shanahan considers Cooley "day to day." When asked about Cooley's status for Sunday's game, Kyle admitted, "I really don't know." Cooley should be on fantasy benches for the opener.

Chris Cooley (knee) was limited in Redskins practice Wednesday.
Cooley is trying to get back into game shape after sitting out most of camp. "If he was 100 percent sure, I'd tell ya," said Mike Shanahan after practice. "But when you're limited ... when you don't take all the reps in practice, you are not sure how that knee is going to respond." Cooley is considered a game-time decision for Week 1. Look elsewhere for a fantasy starter.

Chris Cooley (knee) practiced on a limited basis Monday and is considered a game-time decision for Week 1.
Coach Mike Shanahan, who in his first year with the Redskins last season listed more players "questionable" than any coach in the league, deemed Cooley a game-day decision against the Giants. We suspect Cooley will play barring in-practice setbacks, but his effectiveness and snap count are concerns. Keep an eye on Cooley, but turn elsewhere for a Week 1 fantasy starter.

Chris Cooley (knee) said Monday he is "100 percent confident" he will play in Week 1.
Ever the optimist, Cooley said he'll be back practicing next week. While we don't have much reason to doubt him, Fred Davis has been turning heads all month long while Cooley has been sidelined. In an effort to keep Cooley healthy and get Davis on the field, we're expecting some kind of timeshare. There's not much reason to chase Cooley in fantasy drafts at the deep tight end position.

Chris Cooley concedes that he'll have to deal with pain all season in his troublesome left knee.
Cooley insists he'll try to practice and play all season, but it sounds like far from a guarantee he'll make it 16 games. "The problem was over a long period of time I was starting to bruise around (the knee)," said Cooley. "And the joint around it was becoming so irritated." Swelling in the surgically repaired knee figures to be a problem after each game this season. We're continuing to shy away from Cooley in all fantasy drafts.

Chris Cooley (knee) said Monday that he hopes to begin on-field work next week.
Cooley says he hasn't experienced any recent swelling and "can't imagine not playing" in Week 1. He had the knee drained a week ago and has not run in two weeks. While Cooley may very well be ready by Sept. 11, we can't discount the possibility that his knee will flare up again. He hasn't had surgery to repair the situation, instead opting for simple rest. Cooley remains a red flag on fantasy draft day, especially with Fred Davis impressing in camp.
