Updating a previous report, Daniel is expected to assume a backup role to begin the season if rookie Carson Wentz is healthy enough to play, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Vikings trade for Sam Bradford originally appeared to clear the way for Daniel to take over starting duties in Week 1, as he was Bradford's backup on the depth chart. However, the Eagles appear to be skipping the middle man and handing the keys to the offense over to their first-round draft pick right away. Daniel could still see the field if Wentz struggles early on or if he suffers some sort of setback from the rib injury he's currently dealing with.

Daniel is the favorite to start at quarterback in Week 1 following the trade of starting quarterback Sam Bradford to the Vikings, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old will now be entering his seventh season in the league as a starting quarterback for the first time. Carson Wentz is still the quarterback of the future for the team, but Daniel will likely have the opportunity to run the show from under center right away. Wentz's timeline could be moved up even sooner if Daniel struggles early on. Daniel was just 37-for-60 with one touchdown and two interception in four preseason games.

Daniel threw for 82 yards on 10 of 16 passing in Thursday's win over the Steelers.
EDGE Analysis
Daniel played a majority of the second half for the eagles, leading the team to one score in his time on the field. He managed to avoid major mistakes but didn't do anything to separate himself. He looks to have a solid hold on the second string QB slot in Philadelphia, despite the team spending the second overall pick on Carson Wentz.

Daniel is slated to join the Eagles, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. His deal with the team is reportedly for three years.
EDGE Analysis
While the Eagles have already elected to pay up in order to retain the services of starting QB Sam Bradford, Daniel now joins the team's backup mix, with the deal reuniting him with new Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson, who worked with Daniel while the two were both with the Chiefs. Daniel thus appears to be an injury away from a shot to helm the Eagles offense, but given Bradford's injury history, it's understandable that Pederson was interested in securing some trusted QB insurance.

Daniel will likely test the free agent market this offseason in hopes of competing for a starting role for another team, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. "We've had [Daniel] here for three years and I think Chase is a very competitive player. I think we're very lucky to have him as our No. 2 quarterback...At the right price I would try to retain him... I'm also a realist to know that at the certain point if he's getting starter's money I'm not going to be able to retain him," said general manager John Dorsey on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Daniel, who has served as the Chiefs' backup for the past two seasons, recently received some praise from his former offensive coordinator and current Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, who said that the Missouri product could be a starter. He has been a career backup with the Saints and Chiefs, but after seven seasons in the league it appears he wants his shot to be a starter at this level. He figures to garner interest during the free agent period from teams with unsettled quarterback situations.

Daniel didn't play in Friday's preseason game against the Titans.
EDGE Analysis
Daniel's absence Friday doesn't mean much, as he's expected to receive the start for the final preseason game next week. He remains the overwhelming favorite to back up starter Alex Smith this season, and has shown the ability to move the ball when given the opportunity.

Daniel completed 16-of-27 passes for 157 yards during Sunday's win over the Chargers.
Daniel, starting in place of Alex Smith, who suffered a ruptured spleen earlier this week, connected with five different receivers and appeared to throw the first touchdown pass to a wide receiver this season, only for Dwayne Bowe to fumble at the one-yard line, with tight end Travis Kelce recovering in the end zone for their lone TD of the day. Smith is fully expected to return to health well before next season, which means Daniel will return to his backup role with little chance of supplanting Smith without an injury.

Daniel will start in place of Alex Smith (lacerated spleen) on Sunday against the Chargers, ESPN.com reports.
With Smith looking at a six-week recovery, Daniel would also be in line to start for the Chiefs in the playoffs, should the team qualify for the postseason. Daniels also started for the Chiefs in Week 17 against the Chargers last season, when the team rested several key players, recording 200 passing yards and a touchdown, while completing 21-of-30 pass attempts in the process. This time around, Daniel remains a fantasy dart, while helming a Kansas City offense in which a wide receiver has yet to score a TD this season.

Daniel will start Thursday's preseason game against the Packers, the Chiefs' official site reports.
Coach Andy Reid said he doesn't typically play starters in the fourth preseason, and Daniel will get the start in the place of Alex Smith as a result. He will play the first quarter of the game while the remaining three quarters will be split between Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray.

Daniel completed 8-of-10 passes for 126 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Thursday's preseason opener against the Bengals.
After throwing a pick-six earlier in the game, Daniel bounced back by connecting with TE Travis Kelce on a 69-yard touchdown play. At this stage, Daniel remains on track to serve as the Chiefs' No. 2 QB behind starter Alex Smith, with the team's initial preseason depth chart (which lists Tyler Bray third, followed by Aaron Murray) reflecting that.
