Andre Johnson (hamstring surgery) plans to try to practice this week after gets his stitches out.
The Houston Chronicle concedes that Johnson is unlikely to play in Week 6, but Week 7 against the Jaguars is a realistic goal. The Texans need Johnson back in a major way, because defenses can key up to stop their running game without him in the lineup. Owen Daniels has taken over as the top receiving option.

Andre Johnson (hamstring surgery) is optimistic he won't require a long absence.
"Out of any procedure I've ever had, this is probably the best I've felt," he said Friday. "I'm pretty confident about this one. I'm pretty pumped; just can't wait to get these stitches out so I can get to rolling." There's an outside chance Johnson could return as early as Week 7, but Week 8 remains more realistic.

Andre Johnson (hamstring surgery) said Friday that he intends to return to the lineup in "a couple weeks."
Johnson will have the stitches in his hamstring checked in five days, and his rehab will be accelerated thereafter. Johnson says he's currently in no pain, but also revealed that his hamstring tendon has been an issue dating back to camp. The surgery cleaned up some scar tissue behind his previously surgically repaired knee. Johnson's most likely return date remains Week 8.

Coach Gary Kubiak confirms that Andre Johnson underwent a minor surgery on his hamstring.
According to Kubiak, the Texans will have a better idea on Johnson's recovery timetable after a week of rehab. At this point, he's expected to miss at least the next two weeks and probably a third.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak provided no timeline for Andre Johnson's return Wednesday, after his platelet-rich plasma procedure.
Kubiak did say Johnson will return to Houston shortly to begin his rehab, and "everything was positive" after the therapy procedure. Johnson is believed to be targeting Week 7 for his return, but Week 8 sounds like a more realistic goal. He's almost certainly not playing in Week 5 or Week 6.

Andre Johnson (hamstring) underwent platelet-rich plasma therapy, a source tells the Houston Chronicle's Stephanie Stradley.
Calling Johnson's procedure "surgery" never made sense. PRP therapy is a new-wave recovery method that world-class athletes are using to speed up recovery timetables. What we don't know is exactly how Johnson will respond to the treatment. Beat writer John McClain says there's an "outside chance" Johnson will be ready for the Week 7 game against the Titans.

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports Andre Johnson will miss three weeks after undergoing a procedure to prevent scar tissue and "speed the recovery" of his hamstring.
Hamstring surgeries typically require a much longer recovery period, but Johnson's procedure is minor. He's not having the tendon re-attached to the bone, rather expediting the recovery process. Johnson will miss games against the Raiders, Ravens, and likely the Titans over the next three weeks, aiming for a return against the Jags in Week 8. Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter will start this week, though Owen Daniels will likely be the No. 1 weapon in the passing game.

According to ESPN's John Clayton, Andre Johnson (hamstring) will "definitely" sit out this week's game against the Raiders -- and likely 2-3 weeks after that.
Clayton says Johnson will probably end up being sidelined for three weeks total. We've been taking Clayton's injury updates with a grain of salt, as he often seems to be reading tea leaves as opposed to reporting. We do believe that Johnson will not be available this week, however.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday Night Countdown that the Texans believe Andre Johnson's hamstring injury will not keep him out long term.
Schefter confirmed that Johnson probably won't play in Week 5 against the Raiders, but the team hasn't yet ruled him out, and the injury isn't season-threatening as may have been initially feared. In other words, it sounds like a "week-to-week" situation. Just keep in mind that the Texans are still awaiting a second opinion on the hamstring injury. Coach Gary Kubiak suggested Monday that the Texans will "lean on" Arian Foster until Johnson gets back.
