NFL suspended Giants RB Andre Brown four games for violating the league's policy against performance enhancers. Running back increasingly is becoming a major need area for the G-Men. Brown, 25, was set to make a hard push for a roster spot after battling injuries his first three seasons in the league. For his career, Brown has only two rushes in four appearances. The Giants may look early in the draft for a running back, perhaps eyeballing Boise State's Doug Martin at No. 32.

Giants signed RB Andre Brown, LB Adrian Tracy, QB Ryan Perrilloux, DE Justin Trattou, DT Dwayne Hendricks, TE Christian Hopkins, and C Jim Cordle to their practice squad. Brown's training camp reports were glowing, but he managed just 3.2 yards per with a long of 11 on 33 carries this preseason. Several teams needed a backup running back, yet Brown went unclaimed on waivers.

He was leading the chase for the No. 4 tailback spot until rookie Da'Rel Scott broke off two long touchdown runs in the final two exhibition games.

But he blew out his Achilles' in his first training camp and has bounced all over the league since. He's a long shot to stick on the Giants as D.J. Ware is locked in as the No. 3 back.

Brown will actually go on waivers, but passing through unclaimed won't be a problem considering how poorly he's shown through two NFL seasons. Brown was a good-looking prospect coming out of North Carolina State. He just hasn't been able to stay remotely healthy since tearing his Achilles' in August of 2009.
