Mattison (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
Unable to practice in any capacity this week, Mattison will be inactive for the first time in his young career. Mike Boone and/or Ameer Abdullah will handle backup work, with Dalvin Cook potentially getting even more touches than usual if the Vikings end up in a tight contest.

Mattison (ankle) isn't practicing Friday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison told the media he would be fine for Sunday's game against the Chargers, but a third consecutive missed practice suggests otherwise. It remains to be seen how the Vikings list the rookie running back on their final Week 15 injury report, which will be issued later Friday.

Mattison (ankle) did not participate in Thursday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison said Wednesday that he'll play in Sunday's game against the Chargers, but back-to-back absences from practice cast doubt on his assertion. Should the rookie ultimately land on the Week 15 inactive list, Dalvin Cook might see even more work than usual during Sunday's game against the Chargers. Alternatively, the Vikings could give Mattison's vacated snaps to reserve running backs Ameer Abdullah and Mike Boone.

Mattison (ankle) was a non-participant in Wednesday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison appears to have picked up an ankle injury during Week 14's win over the Lions, during which he logged 14 carries for 46 yards and hauled in both his targets for 18 yards. Despite being held out of practice to begin the week, the rookie running back told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Wednesday that he fully expects to suit up against the Chargers on Sunday and is taking his recovery "day by day." Mattison will have two more chances to up his level of activity in practice ahead of Week 15's tilt in Los Angeles.

Mattison carried the ball 14 times for 46 yards in the team's Week 14 win over the Lions. He added two receptions for 42 yards.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison matched a season high with 14 carries, though he was still out-touched by Dalvin Cook. He wasn't particularly efficient with his opportunity, as half of his carries went for two yards or fewer. While the health of Cook was a question entering the game, Mattison's workload was seemingly due more to the Vikings' relative comfort in winning the contest, as Cook accounted for 13 of the team's 19 carries in the first half while Mattison received nine of the team's 20 carries after halftime. Mattison may be the most valuable handcuff at this point in the season, though his standalone value is questionable unless Cook suffers a setback prior the team's Week 15 contest against the Chargers.

Mattison rushed four times for 22 yards and secured four of five targets for 51 yards in the Vikings' 37-30 loss to the Seahawks on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison took on extra snaps after Dalvin Cook (shoulder) was forced from the contest, and the rookie finished tied for the team lead in receptions and second in receiving yardage for the night. Coach Mike Zimmer labeled Cook's injury as not serious in his postgame press conference, but if it proves severe enough to sideline the third-year back for a Week 14 tilt against the Lions, Mattison would be primed for a start versus Detroit's vulnerable defense.

Mattison had three carries for five yards in Sunday's win at Denver.
EDGE Analysis
Minnesota never got its running game going and fell behind early, both factors that limited Mattison's involvement. Mattison continues to have an impressive rookie season (4.8 yards per carry) but isn't getting enough touches for viable fantasy value in most formats. He's a backup worth rostering, though, as he could have significant value as a starter should Dalvin Cook get hurt. He also has a good chance of seeing a solid amount of carries in any game where Minnesota has a secure second-half lead.

Mattison had eight carries for 52 yards and one reception for two yards on his only target in Sunday's win at Dallas.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison is the clear backup to Dalvin Cook, but he was impressive in his limited work as the Vikings stuck to the ground game (36 carries for 153 yards overall). Mattison continues to have an impressive rookie season (6.5 yards per carry) but isn't getting enough carries for viable fantasy value in most formats. He's a backup worth rostering, though, as he could have significant value as a starter should Cook get hurt.

Mattison had three carries for six yards in Sunday's 26-23 loss at Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison played just six snaps on offense as his usage was perplexing against a team the Vikings were expected to heavily utilize the run against. Ameer Abdullah played eight snaps as the Vikings used him in pass situations, but also threw a deep end-zone pass to Mattison as well (which was off target). Despite Sunday's usage, Mattison has a good chance of seeing a solid amount of carries in any game where Minnesota has a secure second-half lead.

Mattison rushed 13 times for 61 yards and brought in both of his targets for three yards in the Vikings' 19-9 win over the Redskins on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
With the Vikings largely in control of the contest and focusing on the run game in the second half, Mattison saw his second-largest workload of the season on the ground. The rookie has eclipsed 60 rushing yards in two of his last three games, and although his week-to-week opportunities are far from consistent, Mattison has a good chance of seeing a solid amount of carries in any game where Minnesota has a secure second-half lead, given head coach Mike Zimmer's preference for the ground attack. Mattison will look to put together another strong effort in a Week 9 matchup against the Chiefs a week from Sunday.
