Mattison had two carries for six yards in Sunday's win over Carolina.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison played 12 snaps on offense as he was used on a series when Dalvin Cook was briefly sidelined with a sore ankle. Earlier in the season, it looked like he'd get a decent number of carries to take the load off Cook. However, Cook has received nearly every touch out of the backfield the last three games.

Mattison had one carry for six yards in Sunday's loss to Dallas.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison played just six snaps on offense. He's had just three carries the last two weeks, and just 18 carries the past four weeks. Earlier in the season, it looked like he'd get a decent number of carries to take the load off starter Dalvin Cook. However, Cook has received nearly every touch out of the backfield the last four games.

Mattison registered four rushing yards on two carries during Monday night's 19-13 win against the Bears.
EDGE Analysis
During a contest in which neither team led by more than six points at any juncture of the game, Dalvin Cook expectedly shouldered the bulk of the workload, fielding 30 of 32 running back carries and 94.4 percent of the overall RB touches on the night. An approaching Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys' 31st-ranked rush defense would provide opportunities to Mattison in a scenario where the game gets out of hand, and Cook ultimately yields second-half carries to the backup. Mattison was able to rack up 69 rushing yards on 12 attempts during a 14-point win over Detroit in Week 9.

Mattison carried the ball 12 times for 69 yards in Week 9 against Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison got only two carries prior to the fourth quarter, when the Vikings were up 34-13. However, he helped to close out the game, picking up chunk gains of 14, 18 and 18 yards on the team's final possession. It's difficult to count on that type of game script on a weekly basis, meaning Mattison is trustworthy only if Dalvin Cook is forced to miss additional game action.

Mattison rushed three times for eight yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 28-22 win over Green Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison was a non-factor as Dalvin Cook (groin) returned from injury and rumbled for 229 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns. Cook should handle a workhorse role as long as he's healthy, relegating Mattison to change-of-pace duties against the Lions in Week 9 and beyond.

Mattison registered 26 rushing yards on 10 carries, also catching one of two targets for four receiving yards during Sunday's 40-23 loss to the Falcons.
EDGE Analysis
Game script worked against Mattison heavily in this one, with the Vikings falling into a 20-0 deficit by the halftime break. The 22-year-old back got out to a hot start with seven yards on his first rush attempt of the day, but his other seven first-half carries yielded a total of only 19 yards. Mattison was explosive in relief of Dalvin Cook (groin) last Sunday night against the Seahawks, gaining 136 scrimmage yards on 23 touches while posting a 5.6 yards-per-carry average. His fantasy utility may be diminished in the near future, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Cook has an extremely strong chance to return following Minnesota's Week 7 bye.

Mattison will be the Vikings' No. 1 running back Sunday against the Falcons with Dalvin Cook (groin) sidelined for the contest, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Vikings made the expected move and formally ruled out Cook, who suffered an adductor strain Week 5 in Seattle. Prior to his departure in the third quarter, he had 22 touches, and he also averaged 20.5 touches through the first four games of the campaign. By the end of this past Sunday's 27-26 loss, Mattison himself racked up 23 touches for 136 yards from scrimmage, so he seems poised to handle a significant workload this weekend. As a result, he seems like a great bet to produce versus an Atlanta defense that has given up 139 total yards per game to running backs in 2020. Mattison's opportunity may be short-lived with a Week 7 bye on tap.

Mattison is expected to serve as the Vikings' feature back in Sunday's game against the Falcons with Dalvin Cook (adductor) unlikely to be available for the contest, Chad Graff of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Vikings haven't formally commented on Cook's status for Week 6, but with the running back undergoing an MRI on Monday that revealed an adductor strain, the expectation is that he'll be withheld from action against Atlanta before being re-evaluated following Minnesota's Week 7 bye. With Cook exiting in the second half of the Vikings' 27-26 loss to the Seahawks over the weekend, Mattison rose to the occasion, carrying 20 times for 112 yards while hauling in all three of his targets for 24 yards. Reserve backs Mike Boone and Ameer Abdullah could take on slightly larger roles Week 6 than they would normally earn when Cook is available, but Mattison demonstrated in Seattle that he could capably handle a three-down workload. With a juicy matchup on tap versus a weak Atlanta defense, Mattison looks like a strong lineup option in both PPR and non-PPR formats this week.

Mattison took over for an injured Dalvin Cook (groin) in the second half of Sunday's loss to Seattle, receiving 20 carries for 112 yards while adding three receptions for 24 yards.
EDGE Analysis
Cook was briefly forced out of the contest in the third quarter with a groin injury, and he was able to return for only one more carry before leaving the game for good. That opened the door for Mattison to take over as lead back, and the 22-year-old was up to the task. Mattison was able to do his best Cook impersonation by ripping off chunk after chunk against the Seahawks' stout front seven. Cook will have an MRI on Monday, so we should get more information soon on whether Mattison will become a prize off the waiver wire for a potential start against Atlanta on Sunday.

Sun 10/4/20 7:09 PM

Mattison registered 17 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven carries during Sunday's 31-23 win against the Texans.
EDGE Analysis
Dalvin Cook momentarily exited the game with an apparent injury at the 11:27 mark of the fourth quarter, and Mattison stepped into a red-zone opportunity and delivered a four-yard TD run to provide Minnesota with a two-possession lead. Cook was able to quickly return to the contest, limiting Mattison to three more carries and six rushing yards the rest of the way. Mattison will remain the Vikings' clear No. 2 option at running back as the team transitions into a Week 5 matchup against Seattle's top-five rush defense.
