Steve Nash (sore ankle) admitted that he's still regaining his "rhythm and timing" after a summer spent rehabbing injuries. "I've played two basketball games since [May], if you count the two playoff games where I limped around," Nash said. Mike D'Antoni is encouraging him to shoot more, which would be great news for a career 42.8 percent 3-point shooter, but ultimately Nash's health will be the biggest determinant of his fantasy value.

Steve Nash isn't concerned about his sore left ankle injury from Thursday night. Coach Mike D'Antoni also said he's not worried about Nash's ankle, but he said "this will happen off and on the whole year" for Nash. The 39-year-old guard may have a tough time playing in 70 games this year, which subsequently could knock him out of being a top-15 point guard in fantasy leagues.

Steve Nash has a sore left ankle and will not return to Thursday's game. He's been bothered by a hamstring injury for most of the offseason and training camp, so this is a new injury. Nash's age is catching up with him at 39, which has caused his draft stock to slide significantly. He finished with no points and two assists in nine minutes.

Steve Nash (hamstring) grabbed five rebounds and handed out six assists in Sunday's loss to Denver, but he was scoreless in 22 minutes of action. Nerve damage in Nash's leg limited him to 50 games played in 2012-13. He's healthy and ready to play on opening night, but Mike D'Antoni said this week that his 39-year-old starting PG might be held to around 25-31 minutes per game during the regular season. In all likelihood he'll have a few more days of prescribed rest as the preseason rolls along.

Coach Mike D'Antoni said Pau Gasol (knees) and Steve Nash (hamstring) are likely to play 20 or so minutes in L.A.'s second game in a back-to-back preseason opener. The Lakers are playing it safe with their aging point guard and power forward. This is preseason, so we wouldn't read much into the numbers. Although Nash's age, declining play, and an injury plagued season last year (50 games played) makes him a risky pick.

Steve Nash (hamstring) and Pau Gasol (knees) will not play in Saturday's preseason opener. The Lakers open with games on Saturday and Sunday, so Mike D'Antoni is simply playing it safe with his veterans. As for whether Nash will be rested in back-to-back sets during the regular season, D'Antoni said, "We're going to look at it and we'll see, but that's definitely an option." The absence of Nash and Gasol on Saturday means more playing time for guys like Jordan Hill, Chris Kaman, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar.

Steve Nash (hamstring) was limited in Sunday's two-a-day practice. "Mike [D'Antoni] doesn't want me to overdo it to jeopardize my ability to be healthy and stay healthy," Nash said. "I feel good. At this time of year, I need to play and get reps. But I need to find that balance and not overdo it as well." The Lakers have no reason to rush him back and he's expected to be near 100 percent to start the regular season. Nash showed his age last year, missing 32 games, so he'll be a risky pick later in drafts.

Coach Mike D'Antoni is considering giving Steve Nash prescribed rest, and general manager Mitch Kupchak added that Nash should play less minutes this season. "He's 39 years old," said Kupchak. "You can't play a guy like that 35, 40 minutes a game. I don't know what the number is. I don't know if it's 25, 28, 31 [minutes], but I think we have some players we can go to and give him a rest." Nash added, "I think 30 minutes and above is kind of similar territory. I mean, what's the difference between 30 and 34 and 32 [minutes]? Nash may be able to debate his way into more minutes than Kupchak is thinking, and we have him somewhere between 27-30 minutes per game when he's not resting.

Lakers trainer Gary Vitti suggested that Steve Nash (leg, hamstring) might benefit from occasional rest during the NBA season. "He might be a guy that would be better off reducing his minutes," Vitti continued. "Because he wasn't himself last year, let's see what he's like in camp. We're not going to beat the guy up." Nash is almost completely recovered, but at 39 years old the Lakers may have to get creative to keep him healthy during the season. He averaged 32 minutes per game last year, but he also missed 32 games.

Steve Nash (leg, hamstring) was "moving well" during team workouts on Tuesday, according to Lakers writer Mike Trudell. The 39-year-old is almost 100 percent recovered from lingering nerve damage in his leg, itself the result of a fractured fibula. Nash averaged 12.7 points, 1.1 threes, 6.7 assists and 0.6 steals in 32 minutes per game with L.A. last year, and should post similar stats when healthy this season.
