Steve Nash (hamstring) and Pau Gasol (knees) will not play in Saturday's preseason opener. The Lakers open with games on Saturday and Sunday, so Mike D'Antoni is simply playing it safe with his veterans. As for whether Nash will be rested in back-to-back sets during the regular season, D'Antoni said, "We're going to look at it and we'll see, but that's definitely an option." The absence of Nash and Gasol on Saturday means more playing time for guys like Jordan Hill, Chris Kaman, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar.
