Updating a previous report, Rudy Gobert will have a procedure to repair an ingrown toenail once Summer League ends, but he does not require foot surgery. Jazz fans can breath a sigh of relief -- France's national team coach reportedly said that "[Gobert] has a major problem," but something must have been garbled in translation. The rookie center with the 7'9" wingspan won't play in the EuroBasket tournament but he hopes to return to the U.S. as soon as possible to begin training for the season.

Jazz rookie Rudy Gobert will require foot surgery once Summer League ends, according to the coach of France's national team. The Jazz haven't discussed the need for surgery, but coach Vincent Collet said, "He has a major problem, it will be foot surgery at the end of the Summer League. It was expected." He gave the quotes in the context of Gobert missing the EuroBasket tournament in September, and it's unclear if Utah's young big man will be ready for training camp. We should know more before long.

Rudy Gobert blocked three shots in Sunday's Summer League opener, while adding six points and four boards in 25 minutes. He looked just as long as his bio suggested out there. Gobert's 7'9" wingspan is going to go a long way at weak-side rim protection and he also showed a little bit of quick feet on pick and rolls. He's not going to develop overnight and is unlikely to make an impact right away, but we'll be tracking his growth as a player.

The Jazz will sign Frenchman Rudy Gobert to a contract. Gobert signed with the Jazz thanks to getting a buyout with French team and receiving FIBA clearance. The terms of the deal are not known, but he would received $900K at rookie scale as the 27th pick in the draft. Gobert is a freak at 7'1" with a ridiculous 7'9" wingspan and 9'4" standing reach. He's thin and it's going to take quite a bit of time to develop him as a big-time player.
