Patrick Beverley left Wednesday's game with an undisclosed injury in the second quarter. He was coming down the court in transition, then grabbed his left hip as he called for the trainer. Beverley was able to walk to the locker room under his own power, but he was grimacing on his way back. Jeremy Lin will take over most of the responsibilities and Aaron Brooks will be his backup while Beverley is out.

Patrick Beverley has beaten out Jeremy Lin for the Rockets' starting point guard job, according to Rockets forward Chandler Parsons. It's interesting to note that Parsons is apparently moonlighting as a newsbreaker, but Lin looks to be be relegated to a bench role as long as this report holds true. Lin should still hold fantasy value in a sixth man-type role, but the news of Beverley starting should have owners running to grab him.

Patrick Beverley put forth a big effort on Friday with nine points, five boards, three steals, and one 3-pointer on 4-of-11 from the field in 18 minutes. The box score doesn't show how great Beverley was tonight. He did a tremendous job defending Mike Conley and was going after just about every loose ball in his vicinity. Beverley looks to be the most talented point guard on the roster and if he doesn't win the starting job, he'll be breathing down Jeremy Lin's neck for most of the season. Lin finished with eight points, two boards and no assists in 14 minutes.

Patrick Beverley will start in Wednesday night's preseason game. He also drew the start in Thursday's game and has been putting up stats throughout the preseason. Beverley leads the NBA with 4.0 steals per game this preseason and is clearly a much better defender than Jeremy Lin. Lin is still favored to get the start on opening night, but we still like the second-year guard as a late-round pick in most drafts for his upside.

Patrick Beverly started in Thursday morning's preseason game against the Pacers from the Philippines and had 12 points, five boards, four assists, a steal and two 3-pointers on 4-of-5 shooting in 26 minutes. No, he hasn't unseated starter Jeremy Lin just yet, but it's possible he could before the end of the season. It does look like a timeshare is brewing here, and both players are going to have some fantasy value. Lin also played well off the bench with 14 points, six boards and five assists in 23 minutes.

Kevin McHale hasn't ruled out occasionally pairing Jeremy Lin and Patrick Beverley in small-ball lineups this season. The two PGs shared the court for a grand total of 92 minutes last season and we're not reading much into this possibility, but it's worth mentioning. "Our lineups are not set in stone by any stretch of the imagination," McHale said. "There's still guys fighting for starting spots, there's still guys fighting for playing time and being in the rotation." It's nice to imagine Lin and Beverley succeeding together, but their occasional pairing isn't likely to budge their fantasy outlooks.

Patrick Beverley, Terrence Jones, James Anderson and Greg Smith are not playing in Friday's Orlando Summer League championship game. There aren't many details on why these players aren't suiting up. Nothing appears to be serious and perhaps Beverley is just getting the day off because it's his birthday. Terrence Jones had a nice week as well and could earn more minutes at the forward spots next season.

Patrick Beverley played well again on Wednesday, finishing with 14 points, eight boards, one assist, one steal, one block and two 3-pointers as the Rockets won Game 5 in OKC to pull their series to a 3-2 deficit. Beverley suddenly looks as good, if not better, than the Clippers' Eric Bledsoe, and is making a name for himself in these playoffs.

Rockets G Patrick Beverley declined to apologize for the play that tore Russell Westbrook's meniscus on Wednesday night. Beverley has nothing to apologize for. In a play that happens thousands of times throughout an NBA season, he anticipated Westbrook calling a timeout and lunged for a steal. It's the kind of effort that an underdog team like the Rockets needs from an underdog player like Beverley in the playoffs. "Anyone who knows me, I don't go out to try and hurt anybody," Beverley said. "I play at one speed. That's fast. I crash the offensive glass. I was just trying to make a play on the ball before they called time out. A play like that is unfortunate right now."

Patrick Beverley got his first start for the Rockets and then saw teammate Jeremy Lin leave with a chest injury before going off for 16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, two steals, a block and two 3-pointers on 7-of-13 shooting in 41 minutes of Wednesday's tough Game 2 loss to the Thunder. Beverley got the start tonight and did his best to get in the head of Russell Westbrook, and was also amazing on the offensive glass with five of them. And while the Thunder are clearly in the driver's seat in this series, they're also acutely aware of just who Beverley is after this performance. And if Lin is out again for Game 3, Beverley is going to have another big game.
