Smart (thumb) won't be available for Monday's game against the Raptors.
EDGE Analysis
Smart received the questionable tag due to the right thumb sprain and will end up missing his first game of the season. The Celtics are short on guard depth with Jeff Teague (ankle) and Kemba Walker (knee) also unavailable, so rookie Payton Pritchard could enter the starting five.

Smart is considered questionable for Monday's game against the Raptors due to a sprained right thumb.
EDGE Analysis
Smart picked up the injury during Sunday's narrow win over Detroit, in which he had 17 points and a season-high 10 assists. There's a chance he'll be held out on the second night of the back-to-back, which would leave the Celtics shorthanded with Jeff Teague (ankle) and Kemba Walker (knee) already ruled out.

Smart generated 17 points (5-10 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 assists and three rebounds across 34 minutes in Sunday's 122-120 win over the Pistons.
EDGE Analysis
Smart is playing well as the official placeholder for Kemba Walker, who should make his return later in the month. Even though Smart's role will reduce to a degree, he'll benefit from Boston's tight backcourt rotation, and he has the tools to provide support at either guard position.

Smart scored 13 points (5-14 FG, 3-6 3PT, 0-3 FT) to go along with three rebounds, nine assists, and three steals across 38 minutes in Friday's loss to the Pistons.
EDGE Analysis
Smart attempted a season-high 14 shots, though he struggled to convert from the field and free-throw line. Despite problems with his shot, Smart found other ways to contribute by logging a season-best nine assists. Unsurprisingly, Smart has also continued to rack up defensive stats and has three steals in consecutive contests.

Smart has suffered a contusion in his shoulder but will play through it after an MRI and X-ray came back clean, Jared Weiss of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart himself noted he doesn't know how the injury happened. Regardless, he's not expected to miss any time, and he'll likely be playing with a compression shirt under his jersey to help it heal. In five appearances this season, he's averaging 11.6 points, 5.6 assists, 2.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks in 32.0 minutes.

Smart scored 14 points (5-11 FG, 4-9 3PT) to go with four assists, three steals, two rebounds and one block across 26 minutes in a 126-107 win over Memphis on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The defensive menace recorded a season-high three steals, each of which sparked transition buckets as Boston held a comfortable lead throughout the game. Smart has taken a step back from last season on offense, averaging two fewer points per game this year, but he has recorded multiple steals in three of his five starts. The guard registered less than 30 minutes played for the first time this season with his services unneeded in the fourth quarter as the Celtics continued to pull away.

Smart posted 13 points (4-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six assists, three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot across 32 minutes in Friday's 123-95 loss to the Nets.
EDGE Analysis
Smart will continue to see an increased role until Kemba Walker returns. While this is a familiar role for Smart, his appearances in the preseason and the first two games of the season have fallen short of expectations. His assist totals have salvaged his fantasy value to a degree, but he'll need to put together a string of strong games if he hopes to get back to his 12.9 ppg-average from last season.

Smart posted seven points (3-11 FG, 1-6 3Pt), three rebounds and three assists in Friday's 113-89 defeat against the Nets. He also had two steals, a block and three turnovers in the game.
EDGE Analysis
Smart wasn't too effective with his shots Friday, and he turned the ball over a little too much as well. He will try to do better in Boston's regular-season opener against Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Smart generated 20 points (8-22 FG, 4-13 3Pt), eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in Sunday's 125-113 season-ending Eastern Conference finals Game 6 loss.
EDGE Analysis
Smart's 22 field-goal attempts were a new career playoff high, and he was a big part of both Boston's comeback early in the fourth quarter and demise later in the quarter. Early in the fourth, Smart and Jaylen Brown provided fierce ball pressure that led to easy fast-break buckets. But late in the game, Smart was one of a few Celtics who took ill-advised three-point attempts that derailed the team's offense. For reasons unknown, crunch time saw the Celtics settle for lazy jumpers instead of attacking the basket -- the strategy that had helped them gain the lead. They'll now shift their focus to the 2020-21 season. Smart has two more years remaining on his contract with the Celtics.

Smart manufactured 20 points (5-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 10-10 FT), six assists and four boards over 36 minutes in Saturday's Eastern Conference finals Game 3 win over the Heat.
EDGE Analysis
In addition to his efficient offensive effort, Smart also played significant minutes guarding Heat star Goran Dragic. Smart's aggressive ball pressure led to Dragic shooting only 2-for-10 from the field, a sharp decline after Dragic's impressive outings in Games 1 and 2. But maybe Smart's most impressive feat was his perfection from the free throw line. Smart, a career 77.5 percent free throw shooter, drained all 10 of his attempts from the charity stripe. He was also a key part of a Celtics offense that decided to focus more on ball movement and rugged drives to the basket. The new approach helped Boston improve versus Miami's unique zone defense. Smart and his Celtics teammates must now wait until Wednesday for the pivotal Game 4 contest. Miami still leads the series two games to one.
