It's hardly a surprise, but the 25-year-old will step into the starting lineup with Anthony Davis (Achilles) sidelined for at least the next few weeks. Kuzma is averaging 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in 31.3 minutes in six previous starts this season, and he should be much more involved while Davis is unavailable.

Kuzma recorded 19 points (8-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-4 FT), eight rebounds and one assist across 26 minutes in Sunday's 122-105 loss to the Nuggets.

With Anthony Davis (Achilles) exiting in the second quarter and missing the remainder of the game, Kuzma helped fill the void as the No. 2 scoring option behind LeBron James. Davis is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, and in the likely event he's forced to miss time, Kuzma should see a short-term boost in fantasy value regardless of whether he draws into the starting five or not. During Davis' recent two-game absence on account of the same Achilles' tendon injury, Kuzma nearly averaged a double-double (13.0 points, 9.5 rebounds).

Kuzma notched 20 points (8-14 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and a steal across 32 minutes off the bench in Friday's win over the Grizzlies.

EDGE Analysis

Kuzma had been very inconsistent in the first few weeks of the season, but he seems to be turning things around of late -- he has scored in double digits in seven of his last eight games while grabbing nine or more rebounds in three straight contests. Kuzma has seven double-doubles this season and is averaging 13.6 points with 7.1 rebounds per game during that eight-game stretch. He could be a valuable streaming alternative in most leagues if he finds a way to produce at this rate on a steady basis.

Kuzma would be an interesting fantasy option in 12-team leagues if he was able to consistently maintain this level of production, but with Davis expected back for Wednesday's rematch with the Thunder, the 25-year-old can't be counted on to see the kind of usage he had Monday.

Kuzma managed his highest scoring total since posting 22 points in a start Jan. 28. The fourth-year forward has had an up-and-down campaign thus far, producing mildly disappointing per-game averages of 10.1 points, 5.6 boards and 1.1 assists while shooting 43.9 percent from the field.

Otherwise, he might not have a lot of upside -- especially since he's averaging just 9.4 points per game in 15 January appearances (four starts).

With both LeBron James and Anthony Davis obvious priorities in the offense, Kuzma will almost certainly continue to play a peripheral role. Without much production in assists or defensive stats, Kuzma will go through periods where he manages little value in category leagues.
