Josh Childress is "almost certain" to make the Nets roster. Although Childress is coming in on a non-guaranteed deal worth the veteran's minimum, Brooklyn needs SF depth badly behind Gerald Wallace and it would be a complete shock if he wasn't on the team come opening night. Childress is a nice depth addition for the Nets as the team has completely revamped its second unit, but he's not going to offer any fantasy value.

The Nets and free agent Josh Childress have agreed to terms on a one-year deal. The Nets needed to add depth at SF behind Gerald Wallace, and Childress became an obvious choice once Donte Greene fractured his ankle and Dominic McGuire signed with the Raptors. Childress was miserable for the Suns the past two seasons, and is unlikely to provide any fantasy value.

Josh Childress will work out for the Nets on Tuesday, a source tells ESPN New York. The New York Post previously reported that the team could look at Childress, and while it was reported that Dominic McGuire and Childress would work out for the Nets previously, McGuire has since agreed to terms with the Raptors. Childress would offer no fantasy value as the definition of a depth pickup for the Nets after being amnestied by the Suns. Phoenix still owes the veteran swingman more than $20 million.

The Nets could target unrestricted FA Josh Childress. Brooklyn is looking for depth at small forward behind Gerald Wallace, but Childress' ability to contribute for fantasy owners has fallen by the wayside. The only team Childress previously received interest from the Wizards after being amnestied by the Suns.

The Wizards have "expressed interest" in unrestricted FA Josh Childress, a source tells Michael Lee of the Washington Post. Lee calls Childress signing with the Wizards "probably a long shot," but also mentions that Childress has received interest from "a handful of teams." We haven't heard much about Chilly's future since clearing amnesty waivers and becoming an unrestricted free agent, but he should be able to stick in the NBA, and money definitely shouldn't be an issue after the Suns paid him to go away.

Josh Childress cleared waivers on Tuesday, making him an unrestricted free agent. Childress made waves by signing with Olympiacos in 2008, and somehow landed a five-year, $30 million contract upon his return to the NBA. He should earn a minimum contract somewhere, but is no longer a fantasy asset.

The Suns have exercised their amnesty provision on Josh Childress. Childress flopped after signing a five-year, $30 million deal two years ago, of which Phoenix is still on the hook for over $21 million. Waiving Childress apparently enabled the Suns' successful waiver claim for Luis Scola, and may have cleared up additional cap space for offers to free agent SGs Courtney Lee or O.J. Mayo.

Once free agency begins on July 1, NBA teams have seven days to use their amnesty clause on a player. After seven days the window closes and teams must wait until next summer, so we could see a flurry of financially-motivated waivers in early July. Thus far seven teams have used their amnesty provision: the Magic (Gilbert Arenas), Warriors (Charlie Bell), Nets (Travis Outlaw), Pacers (James Posey), Trail Blazers (Brandon Roy), Cavaliers (Baron Davis) and Knicks (Chauncey Billups).

Josh Childress set a new NBA record this season for minutes played without any made free throws. Childress logged 491 minutes, going 0-of-2 from the FT line. The Suns could use their amnesty clause on the 29-year-old small forward (he's still owed $21 million), though his role could expand next season depending upon what happens to Grant Hill.

Josh Childress admitted that he's a candidate for the amnesty clause this offseason. Childress was barely part of the Suns' rotation this season, averaging 2.9 points per game in his 34 appearances. He has three years and $21 million left on his contract. If the Suns are going to appease and retain free agent Steve Nash, they'll have to free some money up and acquire better talent.
