Initally, Whiteside's contract was staggered, where he would receive a certain percentage of his salary after certain dates. He would receive 25% of his contract after August 1st and 50% of his contract if he were on the roster on opening night. By December 1st, Whiteside would receive the remainder of his contract if still on the roster. However, Whiteside is lock to not only be on the roster but to start at center for the Heat. As a result, Miami restructured his deal to eliminate the waiting periods and has gone ahead and guaranteed his salary for the season. Whiteside becomes a free agent after the 2015-16 season.

Whiteside said improving his free throw shooting will be a priority this offseason, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Whiteside emerged as an elite rebounder, shot-blocker and finisher around the rim last season, but his glaring weakness was free throw shooting, as he converted only 50 percent of his 156 attempts. Seven-footers with Whiteside's style of play don't typically shoot well from the line, so the Heat likely aren't expecting a drastic improvement, but if Whiteside can up his percentage into even the mid-60's it would be a significant jump. For what it's worth, in his lone season of college ball at Marshall in 2009-10, Whiteside shot 58.8 percent from the line.

Miami is deploying a starting lineup of Tyler Johnson, Zoran Dragic, James Ennis, Henry Walker, and Michael Beasley on Wednesday. Although Whiteside and the other usual starters haven't officially been ruled out, they are unlikely to take the floor in the season finale.

He came out of nowhere this season to become an excellent fantasy option by averaging 11.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks a game with one final game remaining.
