Mason played less than 20 minutes in four of his final five games with South Bay, so the trade may represent an opportunity for more substantial playing time.

Mason logged 11 points (3-6 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five assists, one rebound and one block across 19 minutes during Thursday's 117-111 loss to the Santa Cruz Warriors.

EDGE Analysis

Mason is one of multiple backups to backcourt starters Mac McClung and Chaundee Brown. But like he did Thursday, the backup occasionally logs good stat lines when given opportunities. Mason will try to continue creating some value from his limited playing time.

With all the COVID call-ups happening right now, it would not be surprising to see the well-traveled point guard back in the NBA at some point this year.

Mason is averaging 14.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game over his first six appearances with the team. The sharpshooting guard does have over 100 career NBA games played in under his belt, so it would not be surprising to see him get called up by the end of the season by a COVID-depleted roster.

Mason agreed Wednesday with the Lakers on a training camp deal, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

Mason played for the 76ers in the Las Vegas Summer League but will ultimately get a tryout for the Lakers as he looks to find his way on an NBA roster before the 2021-22 campaign. That said, it seems unlikely he makes the team, given the wealth of point guards Los Angeles has on hand.
