Baron Davis could make his season debut for the Knicks on Wednesday at Cleveland.
If it happens, look for his minutes to be severely limited, as he recovers from a fairly serious back injury. And if he does debut in front of the Cleveland faithful, he should get a nice ovation after the Cavs got the top pick from the Clippers in the February Davis deal, which resulted in them landing ROY favorite Kyrie Irving. Iman Shumpert will likely come off the bench once Davis is healthy, but should still get around 20-25 minutes per game.

Baron Davis was not pleased with his performance in New York's scrimmage on Tuesday, making a return for Wednesday's game against Cleveland unlikely.
B-Diddy is getting very close, but it sounds like he will be out at least one more game. The Knicks desperately need his playmaking ability in the lineup as they will likely ease him back into the backcourt rotation for a few games before letting him go full throttle.

Mike D'Antoni would not rule out Baron Davis (back) for Wednesday's game against Cleveland.
However, he won't play on Tuesday against the Bobcats. The Knicks had been hopeful Davis would make his debut by the weekend, but it may come before that. D'Antoni said that Davis would play "limited" minutes when he first returned, and Davis acknowledged that he has to get his conditioning in order. It's time to grab him off waivers and stash him on the roster if he's still available in your league.

Coach Mike D'Antoni said that Baron Davis (back) will play limited minutes at first.
Davis practiced for the first time all season on Monday and is targeting Saturday at the latest for his return. But even he knows he has a long way to go. "Everything (is rusty)," Davis said. "Stamina, timing. I couldn't play dead in a movie if I was asked to." Look for the Knicks to ease Davis in off the bench for at least a week before he pushes Landry Fields and Toney Douglas for minutes. Remember that Davis, 32, was nearly was forced into retirement a few months ago due to back woes.

Baron Davis (back) will practice with the Knicks on Monday.
How Davis reacts to the increased activity will tell us plenty about how near he is to actually playing, but a return this week seems possible. His minutes may be limited at first, and he'll have his hands full directing the Knicks' disjointed offense, but it's time to grab him off waivers.

Mike D'Antoni said Saturday that Baron Davis is "getting close" and that he should be ready for 3-on-3 scrimmaging next week.
He's recovering from a back injury and if the 3-on-3 goes well our guess is he could be playing for the Knicks by next weekend. He's likely going to be injured a lot this season, but if you need a point guard, now is the time to pick Davis up and stash him.

Baron Davis (herniated disc) still hasn't been cleared for contact, and there is no clear date for his return.
"Before I even got here, I didn't think I'd be able to play basketball the way I was feeling," said Davis. "At this point, I think the whole purpose is to get to practice ... which is my main concern right now." Baron's return isn't likely to save the Knicks or fantasy owners, but he's worth stashing as he could return within a few weeks.

Baron Davis could begin contact drills as soon as Monday, but he's not expected to play until late January or early February.
Mike D'Antoni sounds eager for Davis to join the rotation. "We'll have a little adjustment phase but we're adjusting with a really good point guard," he said, "so that's an adjustment we'll make readily." He could easily assume the starting PG job right away, which would crush whatever value Mike Bibby and Toney Douglas might still have.

Baron Davis could be cleared to practice this weekend, and "a late-January return has become more likely than not."
Baron tried to downplay expectations, saying his timetable is in the trainers' hands, but clearly he's getting there. If he's still floating on waivers and you need a PG, think about grabbing him before he's cleared to practice and becomes a hot pickup.

Baron Davis (back) is targeting the end of January for his return, according to coach Mike D'Antoni.
Davis certainly has upside while playing in D'Antoni's up-tempo system, but he's no lock to play starter's minutes. Rookie Iman Shumpert has been impressive and Toney Douglas gives 3-point shooting off the bench. The oft-chubby Davis will be eased in upon his return.
