Andrew Bynum arrived at Lakers training camp in shape and at a lighter 278 pounds.
This has been reported through multiple outlets and we're comfortable putting a check-mark in his offseason workout column. Bynum made noise as a top-40 play down the stretch, but aside from injury risk he could find himself with another team by the time free agency is done. If he stays in L.A. with the current roster, selecting him as high as the late-fourth round is fine with us.

Andrew Bynum has appealed his five-game suspension in hopes that it will be reduced.
Bynum is waiting to hear back from the league, but we would be somewhat surprised if the suspension gets reduced given the vicious nature of his foul on J.J. Barea last season. The Lakers open the season with games on three consecutive nights (Dec. 25, 26 and 27).

A source close to Andrew Bynum believes that he will play in Orlando this season.
The source adds that he has held this belief for months, and of course he's referring to the chance Dwight Howard gets traded to the Lakers. Tis the season for reports like these, so while we won't poo-poo it we're hesitant to get too wrapped up in this report. Bynum would indeed have a higher upside playing as the featured post-threat in Orlando, but his efficiency would likely take a hit.

Lakers coach Mike Brown wants to even out the playing time between Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum this season.
Pau played 37 minutes per game last year, compared to 28 per game for Bynum. It sounds like both players will average closer to 32 per game under Brown, and Lamar Odom is expected to have a similar sized role off the bench.

With an NBA season one month away from any agreement on a new CBA, it's worth noting that four players will begin the 2011-12 season on suspensions.
They are Andrew Bynum (five, for his ugly cheapshot on J.J. Barea), Charlie Villanueva (four, mucking it up with Ryan Hollins), Charlie Bell (one, reckless driving), and Jarrett Jack (one, reckless driving). Of course, they can't be suspended if there are no games.

Lakers coach Mike Brown indicated that Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum will be anchors of the team's offense next season.
"In Cleveland, I had a guy who ... liked to play in space and play pick-and-roll and make plays for others," said Brown. "Here, I've got two guys similar to what we had in San Antonio; you're able to throw them the ball on the block." We have no doubt that Kobe Bryant will still get his 20 shots per game, and Brown's emphasis on speeding up the offense could have wide-ranging fantasy benefits.

Andrew Bynum has eliminated a good portion of body fat this summer by boxing.
Bynum has been working out at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Boxing Club, and the results appear to have had a positive influence thus far. Said Bynum, "Because of my [previously injured] knees, I'm keeping pressure off them rather than loading up the squat rack with weights. It's remarkable. I'm still 285 [pounds], but the body fat is gone and what Alex calls functional muscle is stronger." At this point, anything to strengthen Bynum's knees are definitely beneficial, but only the test of the season will determine whether or not he's able to stay healthy. For what it's worth, Bynum refused to discuss his handicap parking incident a few weeks ago in the same interview. He also said that he has no interest in playing overseas.

In a column for ESPN.com, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar praised Andrew Bynum's willingness to learn during the time the two spent together.
This wouldn't really be news if Bynum hadn't created a stir last week by parking in a handicap spot, but this provides a good sign of the big man's willingness to grow and evolve as a player in the future. The comments from Kareem bode well for the Lakers' future considering new coach Mike Brown said that his offense will run primarily through his big men.

Andrew Bynum was the focus of a local investigative report after he was photographed leaving his convertible across two handicapped parking spaces while grocery shopping.
There was no ticket issued for the violation and Bynum, who recently went to Las Vegas, has not commented. Local writers are pouncing on this as more evidence of his immaturity, but that's probably as far as it will go.

Assistant Chuck Person confirmed that the Lakers will focus their defense on keeping Andrew Bynum close to the basket once again under new coach Mike Brown.
The Lakers don't want Bynum on the perimeter where he can get exposed and/or get hurt. By plopping him down in the paint, he becomes a dominant rebounder and shot blocker. The 12.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks Bynum averaged after the All-Star break last year are within reach again.
