Davies allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six over 3.2 innings in Tuesday's spring start against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Davies was knocked around for a second consecutive Cactus League start, and as he did after the previous start, the right-hander downplayed the results, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Davies said he was throwing pitches in situations he would not normally throw in the regular season, citing the curveball that Jo Adell sent 430 feet to left field for a home run. "Felt pretty good," Davies said. "Still kinda working on things but at the same time, we're getting down to crunch time." He was pleased with his fastball and changeup, which helped him to record the strikeouts. Davies is slotted in as the No. 4 starter.

Davies allowed six runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two over two innings in Saturday's start against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
As has become common for Arizona starters, Davies was pulled with two outs in the first inning -- when he allowed four runs and two home runs -- and returned to start the second inning. He gave up another pair of runs in the third before leaving with one out and reaching his pitch limit. Davies shrugged off the outing, telling Jack Magruder of MLB.com that once the game got away from him, he worked on stuff. "I'm working toward getting built up. I'm not worried about it. Stuff didn't feel quite as sharp," the team's projected fourth starter said. Davies also wants to focus on incorporating more curveballs into his fastball/changeup mix. The right-hander has thrown his curveball just five percent of the time, on average, over the last four years.

Davies allowed one hit and two walks while striking out three over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's spring game against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Davies was the first member of the projected rotation to debut in the Cactus League. The right-hander made 27 starts for the Diamondbacks last season, posting a respectable 4.09 ERA over 134.1 innings, which was aided by a low BABIP (.257). The 30-year-old doesn't overpower hitters and won't strike out many. He currently projects as fourth in the rotation, behind Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly (who starts Friday) and Madison Bumgarner.

Davies re-signed Wednesday with the Diamondbacks on a one-year, $5 million contract that includes up to $3 million in incentives, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Davies declined his side of a $1.5 million mutual option for 2023 to become a free agent earlier this offseason, he'll ultimately return to Arizona at a higher salary figure for the upcoming campaign. While his peripherals weren't outstanding last season (4.71 SIERA, 8.8 K-BB%), Davies remained a serviceable innings eater at the back end of the rotation while logging 27 starts in total. Davies will likely open the 2023 season with a rotation spot, though he could give way to one of the Diamondbacks' many pitching prospects before the end of the year.

The Diamondbacks declined Davies' $1.5 million club option for 2023 on Monday, making him a free agent.
EDGE Analysis
Davies will receive a $250,000 buyout as part of the deal, effectively taking home $1.75 million in salary from the deal he signed with Arizona last March. Though $1.5 million is more than a fair price for a back-end starter like Davies, Arizona evidently felt it was better off pursuing an upgrade this winter or giving its younger, higher-upside arms a chance at staking claims to spots in the rotation. Davies was an effective innings eater for Arizona in 2022 -- he covered 134.1 frames over 27 starts -- but his underlying peripherals (4.71 SIERA, 8.8 K-BB%) didn't make him a particularly appealing fantasy option. The 29-year-old is unlikely to be a priority free agent this winter and may need other teams' pitching staffs to get hit by injury before he signs with a club that can present him with a clearer path to a rotation spot.

Davies allowed a run on two hits and five walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Davies was a bit wild in this one, with the five walks marking a season high. He threw just 50 of 91 pitches for strikes in what his final start of the year. The right-hander rarely had truly awful starts, but he didn't record a win over his last 20 outings of the campaign, taking four losses and 16 no-decisions. For the year, he finished with a 4.09 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 102:52 K:BB through 134.1 innings across 27 starts.

Davies (2-5) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 4.1 innings in a 10-2 loss to the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Jose Altuve got to Davies to lead off the first inning, and after recording a couple of clean innings, Davies ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth innings. The 29-year-old has now failed to complete five innings in four of his last five starts, a period in which he has allowed 14 earned runs in 21 innings. He will take a 4.18 ERA into his next start.

Davies allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Davies was staked to a two-run lead after two innings, and that held up until Los Angeles slugged a pair of solo homers against him in the fourth. The right-hander remained in the game and finished having allowed just those two runs through 5.1 frames, but he ended up with his 10th consecutive no-decision. Davies hasn't earned a win since May 13, though he's been pretty average with a 4.26 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 86.2 innings across 17 outings since that victory. He's allowed two runs or fewer in five of his past six starts.

Davies gave up six earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings in a 13-10 loss to the Rockies on Friday. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Davies struggled immensely in this road start at Colorado, giving up three home runs on 74 pitches. It was Davies' worst start of the year and the first time he has given up six runs this season. Davies' ERA jumped from 3.74 to 4.09 with the appearance. The 29 year-old right-hander remains stuck at two wins despite making 23 starts for the Diamondbacks this season. He is expected to make his text turn in the rotation against the Dodgers.

Davies allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out five in 4.2 innings during Friday's 2-1 win over the Brewers. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Davies had lasted at least five innings in each of his five starts ahead of Friday's outing, but he fell just short of the mark against the Brewers since he required 91 pitches to get through 4.2 innings. Although the right-hander was able to hold the opposition in check once again, he was forced to settle for yet another no-decision. He's settled for no-decisions in eight consecutive outings and has posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 33 innings over his seven starts since returning from the injured list. Davies tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against San Diego on Wednesday.
