San Diego Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso is not in the lineup Sunday against the Colorado Rockies because of a head injury, according to the team's official website. Alonso was lifted late in Saturday's game and subjected to concussion testing after outfielder Justin Upton accidentally hit him in the head with a batting helmet in the dugout. Upton was walking in the dugout and attempted to throw his helmet on the ground in frustration, only for it to leave his hand early and hit Alonso right on the head. It is unclear if Alonso was suffering from concussion symptoms, and it is possible that he is not playing Sunday as a precaution. Derek Norris will get the start at first base in place of Alonso, who is hitting .271 with four home runs and 27 RBI in 89 games this season.

Alonso is out of the lineup Thursday against the Cardinals, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Alonso will receive a day off Thursday with the left-handed Tim Cooney toeing the rubber for the Cardinals. Although he hit a bit of a rough patch (1-for-11) over the past three games, the veteran first baseman has had his best statistical season to this point, batting .310/.396/.402 so far. Derek Norris will move to first base in his place Thursday, while Austin Hedges will enter the lineup behind the plate.

Alonso went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Friday. It was a surprise to see Alonso hitting in the three-hole for the Padres with a lefty on the mound, but he made the decision pay off. While his power has been lacking, with only two homers this season, the average has been fantastic at .321. The substandard pop makes Alonso tough to own in standard mixed leagues, but he could make himself relevant if he's able to launch a few more long balls as the summer goes on.

Alonso will bat third in the order Wednesday against the Giants. Interim manager Pat Murphy's lineup has a different look Wednesday, with Matt Kemp batting leadoff and Alonso slotted into the No. 3 spot for the first time this season. Alonso, who has primarily hit fifth in the order to this point, has just four extra-base hits in 20 games since returning from the DL but his .829 OPS for the season is the best among Padres regulars.

Alonso is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. With lefty Robbie Ray due up for Arizona, Alonso will head to the bench as Derek Norris steps in for his second career start at first base. Alonso is 11-for-29 against left-handed pitching so far this season (one extra-base hit), and he batted second in the order against a lefty Tuesday in Pat Murphy's first game as interim manager.

Alonso is getting his first start of the season at third base Saturday, the Union-Tribune's Jeff Sanders reports. With Wil Myers getting starts at first base, this is the best way to get Alonso and Will Venable in the lineup as well. Alonso has played three career games at third base, but if he's up to it defensively he could play enough there to pick up eligibility in some formats.

Alonso is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of SB Nationreports. Padres manager Bud Black has rid his lineup of lefty-only bats with Clayton Kershaw due up for Los Angeles. Wil Myers will get the start at first base Friday, but look for Alonso, who is batting .364 this month and .342 for the season, to be back in there Saturday to face right-hander Zack Greinke.

Alonso went 3-for-5 with a grand slam in Saturday's win over the Reds. The grand slam off lefty Tony Cingrani, Alonso's second home run of the season and first against a southpaw since 2013, tied the game at seven in the top of the seventh inning. Alonso has now racked up eight hits and four runs scored in his first four games back from the DL, raising his batting line on the season to .363/.450/.480 (120 PA). He hit just .240/.285/.397 in 288 plate appearances last year.

Alonso (shoulder) was activated from the DL and is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets. The Padres left Alonso down with Triple-A El Paso for one more rehab game Monday, but the 28-year-old will slot back in Tuesday for his first major-league outing since May 7. He will man first base and bat fifth against right-hander Noah Syndergaard, pushing Yangervis Solarte to the bench.

Alonso (shoulder) is not in the lineup Monday. Alonso has been rehabbing at Triple-A El Paso, and the Padres initially hoped that he'd be able to return to the big league club Monday. That won't be the case, however, so Yangervis Solarte will make another start at first base.
