Alonso was 0-4 on Friday night against the Royals to drop his average to a brutal .091 on the season.
EDGE Analysis
Alonso has had a horrendous beginning to the 2015 campaign as his average sits at .091 through his first 33 at-bats with a solitary extra base hit. In addition, Alonso has yet to draw a single walk so fat, leaving his .OBP at an equally ugly .091. Alonso plays an excellent defensive first base, but at some point, he is going to need to bring some offensive stats to the position or risk losing time to Mark Canha.

Alonso is out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
The A's are going with a righty-heavy lineup against left-hander Hector Santiago, which in turn means that Alonso will head to the bench for Tuesday's contest. Mark Canha will take his place at first base and bat eighth.

Alonso is out of the lineup Monday against the White Sox, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
EDGE Analysis
With tough lefty Chris Sale on the mound for Chicago, it makes sense to sit Alonso down. Righty Mark Canha will get the start at first base, in what should be a fairly predictable platoon in the early going this season.

Alonso has had a solid spring in his first season with the A's, hitting .362 with an .851 OPS over 47 at-bats.
EDGE Analysis
Alonso will be the starting first baseman whenever the A's face right-handers pitchers, but will often platooned out when they face a lefty. Alonso will likely provide a solid batting average, but he has never hit double digit homers which makes him tough to roster at a corner infield position except in very deep or AL-only leagues.

Alonso and the Athletics agreed to a one-year deal Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The deal is reportedly worth $2.65 million.
EDGE Analysis
Alonso, who came over from San Diego via trade in December, is expected to end up in a platoon situation at first base in 2016. He's coming off of a season in which he hit .282/.361/.381 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 2013 games.

Alonso was traded to the Athletics for Drew Pomeranz, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alonso was a dependable first baseman last season, hitting for a .282/.361/.381 slash line in 103 games last season with five home runs and 31 RBI. Alonso is a much better hitter against righties, posting a .762 OPS in 279 at-bats while posting a .669 OPS in 75 at-bats against lefties. Alonso could enter into a platoon with any number of players in Oakland next season.

Alonso (back) may be shut down for the rest of the season after a scan revealed a stress reaction in his lower back, Bill Center of Padres.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran first baseman has been dealing with back issues for the latter part of this season and Thursday's bone scan doesn't give much hope to him returning this year. He will not travel with the Padres for the team's upcoming nine-game road trip.

Alonso (back) will once again sit out Wednesday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
It's possible Alonso would have been placed on the disabled list if rosters didn't expand in September, but he remains day-to-day because of it. As a result, the team will again turn to Wil Myers at first base, leading off for the club.
