Calhoun went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Sunday for Triple-A Round Rock in its 11-1 loss to Oklahoma City.
EDGE Analysis
Calhoun's career-best 18-game hit streak officially came to an end, wrapping up an outstanding stretch of action for the 23-year-old. During the streak, Calhoun slashed .425/.481/.589 with two home runs, four steals and 15 RBI. Concerns about Calhoun's defensive shortcomings have thus far prevented the Rangers from promoting him to the big leagues this season, but the outfielder should get a look at some point in the second half.

Calhoun went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored Wednesday, extending his hitting streak to 11 games for Triple-A Round Rock.
EDGE Analysis
Calhoun is hitting .391 (18-for-46) during the streak and .321 (43-for-134) since he was benched for a game in late May. He wasn't the happiest of campers when the Rangers sent him down to the minors coming out of spring training, but has been a model employee since his benching. Despite the obvious state of the major league club, the Rangers resisted promoting Calhoun during the first half, publicly claiming he needed more time defensively. We suspect that will change in the second-half. It shouldn't take too much effort to find an everyday spot for Calhoun. Moving Joey Gallo from left field to first base on an everyday basis is all that's needed to create room.

Calhoun went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and RBI for Triple-A Round Rock in its 7-5 loss to Sacramento on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
With only six home runs in 268 plate appearances for Round Rock this season, Calhoun is well off the pace from the 32 long balls he logged across stops with three different clubs in 2017. The declining power production -- along with concerns about Calhoun's defense and professionalism -- have prevented the 23-year-old from surfacing with the Rangers this season, but it'll be tough for the team brass to justify keeping him on the farm much longer if he continues to terrorize Pacific Coast League pitching like he has so far in June. Calhoun has recorded two or more hits in five of his last six games and is slashing .333/.375/.578 with only three strikeouts in 48 plate appearances on the month.

Calhoun was in the starting lineup for Triple-A Round Rock Monday, a day after he was pulled from a game for failing to run hard on a grounder, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. He went 2-for-4 with a double.
EDGE Analysis
Round Rock manager Jason Wood pulled Calhoun in the first inning, which led to speculation about an injury or a pending promotion to the majors. Once the Rangers confirmed it was neither of those, focus turned to a managerial decision. "I can only speak for our organization and identity," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "Play hard ... run down the line hard. It's the effort you're giving your teammates. Once the bat leaves your hands, you're working for your teammates. That's the identity you want to have in your organization." The Rangers are desperate for hitting and it seems logical they could let Calhoun work on his outfield defense while in the majors, but for whatever reason, they have no immediate plans to promote him.

Calhoun was removed from Sunday's game after grounding out in his first at-bat for Triple-A Round Rock, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers are confirming Calhoun's removal was not due to injury nor is there a pending promotion to the majors, which leaves it was a decision by manager Jason Wood. This has led to speculation that Calhoun did not run out the grounder. Texas' second-ranked prospect has had a trying season with the Express, after he somewhat surprisingly didn't make the Rangers' roster to start the season. He's slashing .265/.324/.353 with four home runs and 17 RBI through 50 games, well off last year's pace, and the team is not close to promoting him despite glaring needs for hitting at the major-league level. We hope to get more clarity on the decision to remove him from Sunday's game.

General manager Jon Daniels said that the team has no immediate plans to promote Calhoun from Triple-A, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Calhoun started the season in the minors due to questions about his defense in left field, and it appears things haven't improved enough to warrant a callup. Perhaps his early struggles at the plate are also contributing to this decision, as he currently holds just a .229 batting average, though a low .253 BABIP is likely to blame for that. Calhoun has gotten rave reviews for his bat, but it seems like he's still a bit away from getting to showcase that in the majors again.

Calhoun described being placed at Triple-A Round Rock to the start the season as a "slap in the face," per Gerard Gilberto of MiLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
When the Rangers optioned Calhoun to the minors in spring training, they said it was so he could get some work in left field to improve his defense. He was a second baseman while with the Dodgers, so sending him down to the minors to work on defense at a new position is a defensible move on the part of the Rangers' organization. Calhoun admitted to letting his frustrations get the better of him to start the season, when he went 4-for-21 (.190) with eight strikeouts in first five games. He's appeared to turn a corner since belting his first home run of the season last Tuesday. After a three-hit effort Saturday, Calhoun is 6-for-18 with a homer, three RBI and just two strikeouts over his last four contests. With the Rangers headed toward a playoff-free year in 2018, the organization may want to let Calhoun hone his defense in the majors and acclimate to the big-league pitchers.

Calhoun went 1-for-4 with his first home run on the season for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
This is shaping up to be a rebuilding season for the Rangers, so it seems likely we'll see Calhoun head north to Arlington at some point. If the Rangers feel he still needs work on defense, it might be better to let him get that experience in the majors during a season in which the franchise can afford to give developmental time to prospects.

Calhoun was sent to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, John reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's a surprising move, as Calhoun was considered to be in the lead for the Rangers' left field job. This could be simply a service-time issue, as the team can keep Calhoun for an extra year if he remains in the minors for about a month. There are legitimate concerns about his defense, though, so perhaps some extra work is warranted. Calhoun could do some damage with the bat once he returns to the big leagues, though the fact that his damage will be limited to five rather than six months in the big leagues certainly hurts his fantasy stock.

Calhoun started in left field Sunday and will probably start the next two games there, Dave Sessions of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is year two of the Rangers' attempt to make an outfielder out of Calhoun, who is transitioning from second base. They've been working him intensively as a fielder and will use the next three days to evaluate is progress on that side of the field. "We'll probably see him three days in a row here in the lineup in left field just to see the progress of seeing the ball off the bat, high sky, stands, things like that and how he maneuvers," said manager Jeff Banister. Calhoun has the inside track to win the battle for the left field job, but Banister doesn't want him to be a liability in the field.
