Wei-Yin Chen pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three Wednesday in the Orioles' 6-0 shutout of the Twins. Chen allowed just a single and walked none in an easy debut. He's pretty clearly penciled into the Orioles' rotation, and he's a definite sleeper in AL-only leagues, even though it can be tough to amass fantasy value as an Orioles pitcher.

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said Tuesday that even with their big contracts, Wei-Yin Chen and Tsuyoshi Wada could begin the season in the minors. Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com was told by a team official last week that Chen and Wada "contractually figure" to be in the rotation, but it's clear that Duquette is willing to be flexible. As of now, Chen, Wada, Jason Hammel, Zach Britton and Jake Arrieta look like the favorites for the rotation, though Tommy Hunter, Brian Matusz, Dana Eveland and Chris Tillman are among the potential alternatives. None look like palatable options in standard mixed leagues.

Orioles signed LHP Wei-Yen Chen to a three-year contract with a club option for 2015. Financial terms have not been disclosed, but the Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly reported Monday that the deal is worth a little under $12 million. Chen is the first Taiwanese pitcher in Orioles history. A 26-year-old southpaw, he registered a solid 2.68 ERA and 94/31 K/BB ratio in 164 2/3 innings last season with the Chunichi Dragons of Japan's Central League. He should have spot locked up in the O's starting rotation.
