Lyons was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Monday, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
Lyons will likely serve out of the bullpen for the Cardinals. He doesn't have sparkling numbers at any level this year, but struggled the most in his first stint with the big league club, posting a 5.46 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 28 innings. He fared a little better in minors, dropping his ERA to 4.43, enough to get him another opportunity with the Cardinals. With the poor pitching of Justin Masterson as of late and both Carlos Martinez and now Lyons in the bullpen it's possible, though unlikely, that the Cardinals make a switch in the rotation.

Cardinals optioned LHP Tyler Lyons to Triple-A Memphis.
He's clearing room for the return of Joe Kelly. Lyons was blasted for four runs -- one earned -- over three relief innings Thursday. He'll return to Memphis' rotation.

Tyler Lyons will pitch out of the bullpen for the Cardinals.
The assumption was that the Cardinals were calling up Lyons to start this week, but Joe Kelly (hamstring) will be activated to rejoin the rotation Friday against the Brewers.

Cardinals recalled LHP Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis.
Lyons will presumably step into the Cardinals' rotation for a spot start this week against the Brewers, but Joe Kelly (hamstring) could then take over the vacancy after that. Lyons owns a 5.19 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 66/23 K/BB ratio in 78 career major league innings.

Cardinals activated LHP Tyler Lyons from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Memphis.
Lyons, who landed on the disabled list with a shoulder strain in mid-May, has made it through a pair of rehab starts without incident. Back to full health, he'll serve as rotation depth in Triple-A.

Tyler Lyons (shoulder) allowed one run in two innings Monday with Double-A Springfield in his first minor league rehab start.
It was his first appearance since going down with a left shoulder strain in mid-May. He allowed three hits and no walks while striking out three batters. The Cardinals will likely want him to make another couple of starts in the minors before considering bringing him back. It's possible he'll simply be optioned to Triple-A once he's back to full health.

Tyler Lyons said his left shoulder "felt pretty normal compared to what it was" when he played catch Tuesday.
Lyons has been playing catch for about a week and appears to be making steady progress from a left shoulder strain. It's possible he could be cleared to throw off a mound by the end of the week. The lefty doesn't have a timetable to return but is trending in the right direction.

Tyler Lyons (shoulder) resumed playing catch earlier this week.
Lyons had an MRI earlier this week, which confirmed the Cardinals' suspicion that his shoulder injury was minor. He could throw a bullpen session next week, with a return in early June looking feasible.

Tyler Lyons (shoulder) will undergo an MRI soon.
The left-hander doesn't think his shoulder injury is serious, but the Cardinals want to get him checked out just in case. Lyons began experiencing discomfort in the third inning of Monday's start and was pulled after four frames.

Cardinals placed LHP Tyler Lyons on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain.
The move comes one day after Lyons was rocked for nine runs over four innings against the Cubs. Jaime Garcia (shoulder) pitched well in a rehab start on Monday and is the logical candidate to replace him in the starting rotation.
