Lyons pitched well on Wednesday in a no-decision, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over six innings while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
Lyons got the call as Michael Wacha was scratched to give him some rest and Lyons filled in admirably. All three runs came in on homers, but aside from that he was very solid. This was only Lyons third start since June 19 and it appears this will be his role all season long. Simply a nice fill-in for the young arms in the rotation who need a start off here or there to get them ready for October baseball. If Carlos Martinez or Michael Wacha need another day off in the near future, look for Lyons to fill-in yet again.

Lyons will start Wednesday's game in place of Michael Wacha, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear exactly why Lyons will take his start Wacha's start Wednesday, but the most likely scenario involves an injury of some kind. Until a diagnosis is given, it's tough to know how long Lyons' run in the rotation could last, but he'll at least make a spot start Wednesday.

Lyons will not start Sunday against the Pirates, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Tim Cooney will get the nod instead, the team confirmed, after outperforming Lyons by a significant margin in Tuesday's doubleheader. Lyons, who has posted a 5.02 ERA in seven starts for St. Louis this season, may not see as many opportunities in the second half as Marco Gonzales (shoulder) may enter the mix.

Lyons was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.
Lyons came up to start Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader and he took the loss, allowing seven hits and three earned runs over 5.2 innings. The 27-year-old has made seven starts for St. Louis on the year and holds a 2-1 record to go with a 5.02 ERA.

Lyons gave up three runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings Tuesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Cubs.
Poor control ultimately caused Lyons to run his pitch count up, as he failed to make it through six frames and issued five walks on the afternoon. Called up as the 26th man for the doubleheader Tuesday, Lyons will return to Triple-A Memphis for now as the Cards can officially recall him to start in Pittsburgh on Sunday against the Pirates with Jaime Garcia (groin) back on the DL.

Lyons will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis to start on half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
Lyons and Triple-A teammate Tim Cooney will get the starting nods after Jaime Garcia (groin) was placed on the 15-day DL Sunday. The left-handed Lyons has logged a victory the last two times he's taken the mound for the Cardinals, but the bigger picture hasn't been as positive, as he's allowed 15 runs (13 earned) on 28 hits over 23 innings.

Lyons is an option to start one half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
It seems that Tim Cooney is the favorite to get that start, but it is not a guarantee at this point. Whoever gets named the starter will likely be brought up as the 26th man for the doubleheader and then be sent back to Triple-A that night. Lyons has a 5.09 ERA in five starts this season for the Cardinals.

Lyons was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
Lyons received two starts with the Cardinals after being recalled, and head a better go around in his second stint with the club. He allowed just five total runs over 10 innings, dropping his ERA to 5.09 on the season. The move was a result of Lance Lynn returning from the disabled list, and Lyons will once again serve as organizational depth.

Lyons allowed three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out five over five innings in a 12-4 win over Philadelphia on Friday night.
Lyons (2-0, 5.09 ERA) was actually cruising before serving up a three-run home run to Ryan Howard in the fifth inning. The good news was he was enjoying an 11-0 lead when he surrendered the long ball. He wasn't very efficient, needing 93 pitches (62 for strikes) to cover the five innings, and his spot in the rotation is probably short term as the Cardinals expect to have Lance Lynn and Marco Gonzalez back relatively soon.

Lyons won his first game of the season Saturday, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over five innings, striking out six.
He was limited to just 79 pitches, and the fact that both runs he allowed came on solo slots is a worrying sign, but with Lance Lynn (forearm) and Marco Gonzalez (shoulder) both likely out of action until at least the end of June, Lyons will get a real chance to prove he can handle a spot in the Cards' rotation. His next start is scheduled for Thursday in Minnesota.
