May said Tuesday that he doesn't think he'll require a stint on the 10-day injured list after an MRI on his arm revealed a "very, very low-grade triceps strain," Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mets will stay away from May for the remaining two games of its series in Philadelphia, but he appears to have steered clear of any major damage after experiencing arm fatigue during his appearance in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies. After getting a couple days of rest and anti-inflammatory treatment to address the injury, May will be re-evaluated on Thursday's off day. Assuming he shows the desired improvement, he should be available for this weekend's home series versus the Diamondbacks.

May is set to get an MRI on Tuesday due to arm fatigue, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unsurprising to see the Mets exercise caution with the reliever this early in the season, as there's no reason to push the right-hander less than a week into the 2022 campaign. May will be considered day-to-day until his scans are evaluated by the team medical staff. Joely Rodriguez and Drew Smith could be in line for more high-leverage opportunities if May is forced to miss time.

May walked one and struck out one in a scoreless inning during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander has a spotless 0.00 ERA this spring to go along with a 5:1 K:BB, albeit in only three appearances, and he appears ready to handle a setup role for the Mets once again. Over 62.2 innings in 2021, May collected seven wins, four saves and 16 holds with a 31.2 percent strikeout rate.

May (7-2) picked up the win during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in an 11-9 victory over the Nationals, walking two and striking out one in a scoreless eighth inning.
EDGE Analysis
The Mets seemed to be cruising to an easy win when they built a 9-3 lead through four innings, but a bullpen meltdown pushed the game to extras. May wasn't at his sharpest, walking Juan Soto intentionally and Josh Bell unintentionally to load the bases with one out, but the right-hander retired Gerardo Parra and Keibert Ruiz to escape the jam, and he became the pitcher of record when New York scored twice in the top of the ninth. May has been scored on only once in his last eight appearances, collecting two wins and two holds during that stretch, and he remains a key high-leverage arm for the Mets.

May (6-2) allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts in an inning of work Saturday night, picking up the win in the Mets' 5-3 victory over the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
May allowed a run to score on a wild pitch Saturday night, but struck out Juan Soto with a runner in scoring position to limit the damage. While this outing does break the 31-year-old's five-appearance scoreless streak, May hasn't lost a decision since June 1.

May struck out two and did not allow a baserunner to earn the save Wednesday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
May was pushed into the ninth inning role with Edwin Diaz currently on the paternity list. May had no trouble with the shift, as he needed only 16 pitches to grab his fourth save of the season. He now has a 3.21 ERA with 56 strikeouts and nine holds across 42 innings to this point in the campaign.

May (4-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Atlanta, striking out two in a perfect seventh inning.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander breezed through the bottom of Atlanta's order on 13 pitches and was rewarded when Brandon Drury launched a pinch-hit solo shot in the bottom of the seventh inning. May has been exactly the bullpen stalwart the Mets needed when they signed him this offseason and he's collected a win, save or hold in six straight appearances, lowering his season ERA to 3.23 with a 51:13 K:BB through 39 innings in the process.

May (3-2) picked up the win in a 1-0 victory over Atlanta during the second game of Monday's doubleheader, tossing a perfect fifth inning with no walks or strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Aaron Loup was used as an opener in a bullpen game for the Mets, and May was in the right place at the right time when the game's only run scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. The right-hander has been rock-solid since mid-June, posting a 1.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB over his last 16.1 innings with one win, two saves and four holds.

May struck out one while recording the final two outs of the 11th inning in Monday's 15-11 win over the Reds, picking up his third save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Edwin Diaz blew the save in the ninth and has failed to convert his last three chances, and that's opened the door for May to notch saves in his last two appearances. The former Twin has only been scored upon once in his last 14 games, posting a 1.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB in 13.2 innings over that stretch. While Seth Lugo could also factor into the late-inning mix if the Mets make a change at closer, May figures to get the first shot at replacing Diaz.

May allowed a walk and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Sunday's 7-6 win over Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
Edwin Diaz yielded a walkoff grand slam in Saturday's contest, and May got the nod for a save chance Sunday. May did well to lock down his second save this season, and he's posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 46:12 K:BB through 34.2 innings. He's also collected seven holds and two blown saves in 37 appearances. With Diaz shaky around the All-Star break, there may be chances for the likes of May or Seth Lugo to receive more ninth-inning duties from manager Luis Rojas going forward.
