May's (personal) rehab assignment is "in a pause right now," Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
May -- who is on the injured list with anxiety-related issues -- made a scoreless appearance with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday but will shut things down for now. Given the nature of what he's dealing with, it's difficult to project when he might rejoin the A's.

May (personal) was credited with a hold in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over Sacramento on Tuesday, firing a scoreless sixth inning in which he allowed a hit and issued a walk.
EDGE Analysis
May fired 17 pitches overall while working around some minor trouble. The veteran right-hander, who'd struggled to a 12.00 ERA and 3.17 WHIP across six innings with the Athletics before being placed on the injured list with anxiety-related issues, may be given at least a couple more opportunities to reset himself with the Aviators before being deemed ready to return to the big-league club.

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay announced that May (personal) will make a rehab appearance for Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
May was placed on the injured list by the Athletics with issues related to anxiety. The right-hander will likely need to make a handful of rehab appearances before he can rejoin the Oakland bullpen, and the team won't rush May back until they feel he's ready after dealing with mental health issues.

The Athletics placed May on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with anxiety-related issues, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
General manager David Forst confirmed in a statement that May's IL stay is related to his mental health. It's entirely unclear when May, who has a 12.00 ERA and 3.17 WHIP through eight appearances this season, will be back on the active roster. With May and Dany Jimenez (shoulder) both on the shelf, Zach Jackson looks like the best bet for saves out of the Oakland bullpen, though those opportunities are likely to be few and far between for the club, which takes a 3-15 record into Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

May (2-3) took the loss against the Cubs on Tuesday, allowing three earned runs on two hits and a walk over one-third of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
Tasked with preserving a scoreless tie when he entered in the eighth inning, May worked himself into immediate trouble by issuing a leadoff walk to Seiya Suzuki and surrendering a double to Patrick Wisdom. A Cody Bellinger run-scoring single and Yan Gomes RBI groundout followed and were enough to chase May, who's now been charged with a loss in two of his last three appearances and has given up seven earned runs over the three innings covering his last five trips to the mound overall.

May (2-2) took the loss to the Orioles on Thursday, allowing a game-winning solo home run to the only batter he faced.
EDGE Analysis
May's ill-fated outing lasted all of two pitches, with Adley Rutschman launching the right-hander's second offering, a four-seam fastball, 405 feet to right center for a game-winning homer. May qualified for just two decisions all of last season with the Mets across 26 appearances, but he's been put into his fair share of pivotal game scenarios early in his Athletics tenure, albeit with mixed results that now include three straight appearances with at least one earned run allowed.

May (1-1) was charged with the loss in an extra-inning defeat to the Guardians on Monday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk across one inning. He also uncorked a wild pitch and recorded a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
May worked himself into immediate trouble to open the 10th inning by giving up back-to-back singles to Amed Rosario and Jose Ramirez, the second plating inning-opening runner Steven Kwan. Rosario eventually crossed the plate as well courtesy of May's wild pitch, saddling Oakland with a two-run deficit that would prove insurmountable. May has quickly qualified for two decisions in the first four games of the season, and despite Monday's hiccup, his largely solid track record as a reliever should continue to afford him a fair share of appearances in reasonably high-leverage situations.

May (1-0) was credited with the victory in Thursday's season-opening win over the Angels, allowing a hit and a walk while recording a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
May took the ball after back-to-back scoreless frames from Zach Jackson and Domingo Acevedo, and he worked himself into a bit of trouble by allowing an infield single and then intentionally putting on Shohei Ohtani. However, May earned his way out of the jam by striking out Anthony Rendon swinging, and he was rewarded for his efforts when the Athletics took the lead with a two-run eighth. The right-hander is likely to be deployed in similar seventh- and eighth-inning situations throughout the season, which should give him a solid chance at holds and the occasional decision.

May, Jeurys Familia and Dany Jimenez could all be used in closer situations this season, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
"I think we'll start out with the mindset that they're all options," Kotsay said. A closer-by-committee situation on a bad team is a nightmare situation for fantasy managers, although someone could emerge as the preferred option eventually. That someone could be May, who has a $7 million contract and who has mostly been very good the last several seasons. Still, it's not a bullpen worthy of much of an investment in fantasy.

May has registered a 9.64 ERA in five Cactus League appearances so far in spring training.
EDGE Analysis
May has allowed five runs in 4.2 innings of work, but he has struck out nine while only issuing one walk. Signed to a one-year deal by Oakland in December 2022, the right-hander has a chance for saves in 2023 -- albeit for one of the projected worst teams in baseball. His role in the Athletics' bullpen has yet to be defined, so he probably won't be appealing in fantasy drafts.
